The position:
Apex is seeking a seasoned portfolio management lead with strong consultative skills to act as an Agile development leader Internal Practice Consultant within our Consulting Practice as part of our Apex Systems Solutions Delivery Organization. This role is best suited for someone with a deep understanding of typical organizational operating models, various agile frameworks, and best practices, to support all elements of the enterprise including tools, process, and people perspectives. An ideal candidate shows a passion for mentoring, communicates clearly, leverages tact in dealing with all levels of personnel while creating a compelling vision of the end game. This role will be responsible for client deliverables as well as internal leadership of technical consulting professionals. This role has an onsite Houston requirement for a minimum of 3 days a week.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the PMO Director with building out a governance model, methodology, process, artifacts, tools, templates
  • Build and develop a rapport of trust with client stakeholders and internal Apex leaders
  • Expected to work in connection with the Client and Internal Executives and stakeholders
  • Develop engagement roadmap and any related reporting for client delivery
  • Provide consultative solutions to the client and stakeholders
  • Oversee and ensure all deliverables are met in alignment with the Statement of Work
  • Ability to strategize and implement high-level program initiatives
  • Lead project managers in critical path analysis, program reporting and control metrics and analysis
  • Lead and oversee team day-to-day work priorities, track agile metrics, and help communicate these to the team and stakeholders
  • Develop and implement metrics to track and evaluate the effectiveness of agile programs, services and initiatives
  • Proactively manage program risks and devise innovative solutions to address potential issues.
  • Utilize team tracking tools (such as Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.) to define and compile key performance metrics, ensuring accurate reporting and analysis.
  • Create and maintain workflows, dashboards, and advanced filters to provide the team with meaningful operational and performance metrics, enhancing overall productivity and visibility
  • Develop domain services management playbooks and job aids
  • Support portfolio planning, KPI reporting and ad-hoc reporting including materials for managers as needed.
  • Resourceful approach to content creation and able to make connections, fill in the blanks, and read between the lines
  • Create and edit PowerPoint presentations to embody a visually-relevant experience for the presenters audience
  • Demonstrate professional level consulting skills, leadership skills, and presentation skills while being adaptable and flexible to acquire skills to meet business needs.
  • Continually innovate, seek creative solutions, and find new ways of adding value.
  • Listen and seek to understand the client and meet their needs, providing consultative guidance.
  • Stay attuned to the future needs of the client and work with internal resources to identify opportunities.

Experience:
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in project and program management required (including all project methodologies)
  • 3+ years of Portfolio Management experience
  • 3+ years of agile experience, including SAFe
  • Oil & Gas experience, familiar with SCADA
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field (applicable education and experience may be substituted)
  • Thorough understanding of Agile Methodology, Agile and/or Project Management certifications preferred
  • Must have SAFe and Value Stream Mapping experience
  • Experience with standing up and leading PMOs, supervising and leading teams
  • Experience with communications and/or stakeholder engagement activities, such as developing communications plans, talking points, and/or presentation materials
  • Required expertise in PowerPoint, to develop high-profile executive presentations, as well as developing metrics from Agile tracking tools like Jira or Azure DevOps
  • Teradata, Snowflake, SQL experience preferred
  • Experience creating dashboards and heat maps at various levels
  • Excellent creative, conceptual, storytelling, and analytic thinking skills
  • Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to work in team setting and independently
  • Excellent writing skills, strong communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional leadership, time management and organizational skills
