Job Overview:
We are seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to ensure the safety and reliability of complex systems throughout their lifecycle. This role involves analyzing system designs, identifying hazards, and implementing safety criteria to mitigate risks. You will develop safety documentation, perform audits, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into all phases of development.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and recommend safety criteria to mitigate or eliminate hazards in system design, equipment, and operational procedures.
- Evaluate system designs, support equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with safety specifications and standards.
- Develop, review, and approve safety documentation, including analyses and reports, to meet certification and program requirements.
- Apply safety engineering principles and standards such as MIL-STD-882 and MIL-HDBK-516.
- Collaborate with systems, software, and test engineering teams to verify safety-critical functions.
- Participate in accident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct hazard analyses (e.g., PHA, FHA) and propose solutions for technical issues.
- Maintain safety requirements and engage with stakeholders to ensure alignment.
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and related standards (DO-178B/C, DO-254, ARP-4761).
- Experience performing hazard analyses such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA).
- Ability to develop safety documentation for compliance with program requirements.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) or system safety tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with MIL-STD-882E and safety analysis techniques (e.g., Fault Tree Analysis).
- Background in domains such as aircraft, missile, or software safety.
- Knowledge of ARP-4761 and certifications like CSP/ASP.
- Aviation E-2 experience (not facilities).
