Description:
Summary

As a Project Engineer, you'll lead the charge on capital and automation projects that modernize our manufacturing capabilities. You'll manage complex installations, drive cost-saving innovations, and ensure high-speed equipment operates at peak performance. This role offers a unique opportunity to be hands-on in the field, with significant autonomy and ownership.

Duties
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and financial justifications for both capital and general plant projects.
  • Lead and execute technical projects, including equipment installation, commissioning, product/process trials, Factory & Plant Acceptance Tests (FAT/PAT), and full equipment qualification.
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and implement automation.
  • Provide hands-on support for the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automated and semi-automated machinery-mechanical and electrical systems, PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, and vision systems.
  • Leverage automation technologies-including robotics, AGVs, machine networking, and data collection-to enhance manufacturing consistency and reduce cost.
  • Use AutoCAD to develop layout designs and electrical documentation.
  • Program and troubleshoot Rockwell Automation PLC and HMI systems.
  • Control project-related expenses and manage procurement using Sonoco's purchasing systems.
  • Collaborate in cross-functional engineering discussions focused on tooling, equipment, and process improvements.
  • Lead assigned projects from planning through to execution.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (Engineering preferred) or equivalent technical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in automation, robotics, and project engineering, especially in high-speed manufacturing environments.
  • Strong experience with AGVs, including programming and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation software and AutoCAD.
  • Proven track record in leading projects and managing budgets effectively.
  • Willingness to travel frequently-project travel may reach up to 70%.
