Job Summary

On any given day at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, we're reimagining ways to create magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while also transforming Disney's media business for the future. Whether that's evolving our streaming and digital products in new and immersive ways, powering worldwide advertising and distribution to maximize flexibility and efficiency, or delivering Disney's unmatched entertainment and sports content, every day is a moment to make a difference to partners and to hundreds of millions of people around the world.

A few reasons why we think you'd love working for Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology
  • Building the future of Disney's media business: DE&E Technologists are designing and building the infrastructure that will power Disney's media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.
  • Reach & Scale: The products and platforms this group builds and operates delight millions of consumers every minute of every day - from Disney+ and Hulu, to ABC News and Entertainment, to ESPN and ESPN+, and much more.
  • Innovation: We develop and execute groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms and enhance how audiences experience sports, entertainment & news.

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking an experienced Sr. Product Manager to join our Media, Devices, and Globalization Product team. Our mission is clear: to lead platform innovation that brings unmatched content and experiences to millions of subscribers across the globe. As an essential part of the product team, you will play a critical role in defining our streaming product strategy, focusing on the backend services that not only safeguard but also regulate access to Disney's vast streaming catalog across Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+.

In this crucial role, you will lead the development and introduction of advanced capabilities focused on the detection and mitigation of credential sharing, a key aspect of our strategic approach to account sharing. This initiative is designed to intelligently identify unauthorized account sharing activities, ensuring that our services remain exclusive to legitimate subscribers while maintaining user privacy and trust. By delivering effective, efficient and innovative solutions to curb credential sharing, you will protect our content, meet licensing and distribution agreements, and deliver a frictionless user experience across our streaming platforms. This multifaceted position offers an unparalleled opportunity to work with teams from Product, Data, Analytics, Business Operations, Finance, and more, directly impacting Disney fans worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of services supporting content access and security (e.g. geolocation, DRM, and rights models) in support of goals to protect IP and prevent fraud while ensuring that all eligible viewers can seamlessly access content.
  • Establish and manage a continuous experimentation and refinement process to improve the accuracy and reliability of our access detection and governance capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Data Product, Engineering, and Analytics partners to develop innovative data solutions for advanced algorithms.
  • Conduct thorough testing and iterations in controlled environments before broader market release.
  • Establish a full-scale deployment plan, ensuring that our infrastructure is ready to support the new system across all service platforms.
  • Develop a continuous improvement protocol to incorporate learnings and feedback post- launch.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or relevant work experience required.
  • Must possess a viewer-first mentality and strong opinions about good customer experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to drive decisions and back up assumptions and recommendations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with engineering teams to discuss technical concepts, make tradeoffs to remove roadblocks, and evaluate new ideas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • You have 4+ years experience in product management in one or more aspects of live and/or VOD media streaming, with a strong background in content security, media rights enforcement, and/or credential sharing mitigation.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY & Seattle, WA is $156,300 to $209,600, in Los Angeles, CA is $149,300 to $200,200 per year, and in San Francisco, CA is $163,500 to $219,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
