Job Title : Senior Natural Application Support Developer
Location: Jackson, MS, Remote

Position Overview

We are seeking two experienced Senior Application Support Developers to assist with the modernization of the Mississippi Automated Child Welfare Information System (MACWIS). This initiative aims to improve service delivery, data quality, and system functionality through the transition to a modern technology platform aligned with the Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS) standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance legacy systems built with Natural, VB6, and .NET.
  • Identify and resolve production issues in the current MACWIS environment.
  • Contribute to the development of new features and workflows in line with the future-state system design.
  • Perform data cleanup and de-duplication scripting (SQL, Natural) for legacy records including:
    • Non-licensed resources
    • Court-ordered resources
    • Undefined genders
    • Person relationship mismatches
    • Orphaned records
  • Assist with data migration planning and transformation for alerts and notifications to the modern CCWIS platform.
  • Support Data Migration Testing (DMT) and general testing efforts.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for both legacy and future systems during meetings and collaborative planning sessions.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 2+ years of experience with Natural programming language
  • 5+ years of experience with Visual Basic 6 (VB6)
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL
  • Proficiency in .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET)
  • Proven ability to maintain and troubleshoot legacy systems in production
  • Experience with:
    • Data integration and batch processing
    • File-based interface routines
    • Code refactoring and system modularization
    • Legacy-to-modern platform transitions
    • Data mapping and conversion
  • Familiarity with source control and change management tools (Git, TFS, SVN)

Child Welfare System Experience

  • Hands-on experience with SACWIS, MACWIS, or CCWIS
  • Knowledge of child welfare workflows: case management, intake, licensing, service planning, and reporting
  • Ability to translate program needs into functional/technical specifications

Professional Experience

  • Ability to manage priorities in high-pressure production support environments
  • Collaborative experience with cross-functional teams (e.g., analysts, testers, project managers)
  • Capable of producing technical documentation and participating in system design sessions
  • Effective representation of the agency as a technical SME

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently or in a team
  • Leadership experience, including mentoring or leading development initiatives

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Prior experience with child welfare modernization or major system overhaul projects
  • Knowledge of federal CCWIS compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with ADABAS
  • Experience with federal regulations related to child welfare systems
