As a Mechanical Engineer on Tesla's Collision Development team you will be responsible for assisting in specifying fasteners and attachments, optimizing process and designing custom service parts in partnership with the design team for structural repair procedures used to service current and future Tesla electric vehicles world-wide. You will work with internal customers to identify and develop practical solutions to enable fast, seamless, and revolutionary service. Responsibilities
- Support the process optimization of the global collision team repair procedures and technical information from a body design perspective and push design and process changes to facilitate new and sustaining vehicles
- Develop design concepts and service designs in both CATIA V5 and CATIA V6/3DX
- Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments. Release parts for Service Collision team in the PLM system. Interface with suppliers for manufacturing feasibility, validation, and other engineering activities as specified for the assigned project
- Create (with component/system supplier) component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods. Complete component and system validation as required, ensuring targets are met and optimized
- Interface with Tesla and Supplier manufacturing to develop components that are optimized for the Collision Service environment
- Perform hands-on investigations, lab tests, and validations and have time management to handle multiple high priority projects, simultaneously
- Complying with all of Tesla's safety rules, guidelines, and standards. Drive innovative initiatives to reduce repair complexity and cycle time
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program, proof of exceptional ability in related engineering fields, or equivalent experience
- 2 years preferred experience in structural design engineering. Automotive, Aerospace, or heavy equipment industry preferred. Machine shop and fabrication experience preferred
- Hands-on experience in automotive body design and engineering. Proficiency in CATIA V5 or CATIA V6/3DX. Good understanding of GD&T in design engineering
- Proven ability to research information, solve challenging problems, and coordinate projects under tight timing constraints
- Capability to interpret CAE results and integrate recommendations into product designs Sophisticated on managing projects with tight timing constraints. Ability to flexibly work in vague and constantly changing design direction and conditions
- Proficiency with common workplace software (Microsoft Office). JIRA experience or other relevant project management experience. 25% travel domestically and internationally based on business needs and capable of lifting 50 lbs. and driving a forklift
- Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced team environment: pro-active team player who thinks ahead, plans, and suggests solutions. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality. Ability to work independently in limited supervision environments
