As MISO's Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the critical systems that power our operations both on-premises and in the cloud, and your work will directly support the reliable delivery of electricity to 45 million people across the Midwest! In this role, you'll work on a mix of virtualization, storage, server hardware, and automation projects. You'll need strong technical expertise and a solid understanding of modern cloud infrastructure.

You'll partner closely with our architecture, networking, and security teams to create infrastructure that is scalable, secure, and reliable. Your input will also shape our hardware choices, system architecture, and long-term infrastructure strategy.

What you'll do as MISO's Senior Infrastructure Engineer:
  • Design and implement infrastructure solutions across on-premises and Azure environments, contributing to architecture decisions and hardware specifications.
  • Administer and optimize virtualization platforms, primarily using VMware technologies such as vSphere and vCenter.
  • Develop and maintain automation workflows using tools like PowerShell, Terraform, and Ansible to streamline infrastructure operations.
  • Manage core infrastructure services, including enterprise-grade storage systems (with a focus on Pure Storage), identity services (Active Directory), and system lifecycle tasks such as patching and upgrades.

Experience/Skills needed for our Senior Infrastructure Engineer:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field, (or 8 years relevant work experience equivalency, required).
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering or systems administration roles.
  • Proven experience with VMware Virtualization (vSphere and vCenter); Cisco UCS blade and rack server architecture.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting, Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, and configuration management with Ansible.
  • Hands-on expertise with Pure Storage, Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Azure cloud services, including virtual machines, networking, identity integration, and hybrid connectivity (e.g., VPN, ExpressRoute).
  • Experience managing and optimizing enterprise storage and compute platforms, including hands-on administration of Pure Storage systems (performance tuning, snapshots, replication, virtualization integration) and Cisco UCS (service profiles, firmware updates, and compute/storage/network integration).
  • Certifications:
    • Required certification: VCP-DCV (VMWare Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization) or VCP-VCF (VMWare Certified Professional Cloud Foundation)
    • Bonus certification: VCAP-DCV - VMWare Certified Advanced Professional - Data Center Virtualization
  • Effectively communicate and present complex technical concepts to senior leadership and diverse business stakeholders.

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
