The Backup and Recovery team is responsible for backup, vaulting and recovery of distributed server data. We own engineering, implementation, operational and audit support along with currency and lifecycle management of our backup software and hardware platforms. We manage vendor relationships and utilize trending analysis to provide yearly budget forecasting and justifications.

The Distributed Backup Engineer is responsible for performing Enterprise backup Engineering & Administrator duties including backup storage design/configuration/management/forecasting, backup software management/configuration. Monitoring and documenting backup and storage trends. Proficient with change management process, ticket creation and implementation. Must have extensive experience with Commvault backup software, Isilon and Data Domain storage. The engineer will work with database, application and server teams to analyze performance and backup requirements and provide solutions that are highly available and perform to meet the business requirements.

What you have

  • Solid understanding of network configurations / topology
  • Minimum 8-10 years' experience with Engineering, Architectural and Implementation experience with Backup & Recovery platforms (software and storage targets)
  • Minimum 8-10 years' experience with various automation/orchastration tools (Ansible, shell, Python) and comfortable/experienced with leveraging API calls for system administration
  • Excellent written and oral communications. Comfortable writing/presenting technical documentation and leading meetings.
  • Commvault and PPDM experience is required, Rubrik / Cohsity backup applications are a plus.
  • Experience with Isilon, ECS, Data Domain and/or Pure storage (all preferably)
  • Experience supporting Database backups on Data Domain with DDBoost
  • Solid understanding of end-to-end backup connectivity for a minimum of one Operating system (Linux, Microsoft, AIX etc).
  • Proficient in i/o performance and connectivity troubleshooting from the backup system to host to the array/backup device.
  • Working knowledge of set-up, configuration and troubleshooting of host-based volume managers.
  • Ability to manage multiple vendor technologies at the same time.
  • Exposure to database, host and virtual system backup solutions required.
  • Ability to multi-task in large, complex backup environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with VMWare/Vsphere, SQL and DB2 DB commands and structure, shell scripting, Perl, Remedy, various monitoring software is preferred
  • Technical project management experience is a plus
  • Comfortable designing / maintaining processes that improve hardware/software performance
  • Able / willing to be on-call if needed
