Job Description

ECS is seeking a Operational Technology (OT) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to work remotely . Please Note: This position is contingent upon contract award.

ECS is seeking an Operational Technology (OT) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the protection of critical infrastructure and energy systems. The SME will provide expert guidance on securing industrial control systems (ICS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and other OT environments in alignment with DOE directives and national cybersecurity frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of OT cybersecurity strategies and risk management plans.
  • Conduct assessments of OT systems to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with Splunk Lead Architect to design read-only log-collection paths (data-diodes, segmented gateways) compliant with NERC CIP-005 and DOE boundary-protection rules.
  • Collaborate with IT, engineering, and operations teams to integrate cybersecurity into system lifecycles.
  • Support incident response efforts, including detection, containment, and recovery for OT environments.
  • Provide technical expertise in secure architecture design, network segmentation, and access control.
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programs for OT cybersecurity.
  • Serve as a liaison with national laboratories, utilities, and regulatory agencies on OT cybersecurity matters.
Salary Range: $170,000 - $185,000

Required Skills

  • 5+ years' experience securing OT/ICS/SCADA in power-utility or critical-infrastructure environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOE cybersecurity policies, NIST SP 800-82, and ICS/SCADA systems.
  • Experience with tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, asset discovery, and vulnerability management platforms (Splunk, SOAR, & UBA)
  • Experience in industrial control system security and NERC CIP compliance.
  • Experience with Zero Trust Architecture
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, industrial automation, and control systems.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree


Desired Skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Familiarity with electrical power generation/distribution sector operations and critical infrastructure protection.
  • Experience mapping OT controls to OMB M-21-31 EL tiers, DOE O 205.1D, and NERC CIP-002 through CIP-015; able to craft compensating-control strategies.
  • Possess GICSP or ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Specialist certification (required at hire) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with tools such Qmulos.
