Job Description:

The Lead WAF Architect will be the primary technical authority responsible for conducting an independent, comprehensive review of the client's current Web Application Firewall (WAF) landscape (with a focus on F5 WAF implementations) and defining a strategic, target WAF architecture and solution for the entire enterprise.
This is a senior-level consulting role requiring deep expertise in application security, hybrid cloud security, and multi-vendor WAF platforms.

Job responsibilities are

Current State Assessment: Lead the technical review of the current, varied WAF implementation across all environments
WAF Policy and Configuration Review: Conduct a deep-dive analysis of existing F5 WAF policies, iRules, virtual patching mechanisms, bot mitigation settings, and API protection controls against industry best practices and security standards (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
Security & Compliance Benchmarking: Assess the WAF configurations and logging practices for compliance with stringent financial and global regulatory requirements, including GDPR and PCI DSS
Architectural Gap Identification: Identify and document architectural flaws, operational inefficiencies, fragmentation, and opportunities for licensing and scalability improvement across the WAF landscape
Target Architecture Design: Define a target WAF architecture (e.g., unified, cloud-first hybrid model) and set clear design principles and enterprise-wide requirements for a future-proof solution.
Vendor-Neutral Evaluation: Lead the objective technical evaluation and comparison of leading WAF provider solutions (including AWS WAF, Azure WAF, Cloudflare, Imperva, Fortinet, F5, and Akamai) against the defined target requirements
DevSecOps & API Security Integration: Evaluate the WAF's capability to integrate with DevSecOps pipelines and provide robust API protection (discovery, enforcement, and security)
Recommendation & Roadmap Inputs: Provide technical input for the prioritized recommendation on the most fit architectures and solutions, including considerations for PoC and implementation roadmap
Stakeholder Communication: Participate in targeted working sessions with IT Architecture/SMEs, providing expert input, clarification, and detailed information/walkthroughs of the WAF environment.
Report Generation: Contribute to the creation of the final, evidence-based assessment report, ensuring technical accuracy and clarity on findings and recommendations

Minimum Qualifications

Certified in multiple WAF platforms (e.g., F5 BIG-IP ASM/Advanced WAF, Cloudflare, Imperva, AWS WAF, Azure WAF, or similar).
15+ Years of relevant professional experience, with deep expertise in application security and WAF architecture.

Required Experience

Proven experience in vendor-neutral WAF assessment and strategy engagements for global financial institutions or Tier-1 banks.
