Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cerner CCL Designer & Developer to lead complex design, development, optimization, and support of Cerner Millennium solutions. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Cerner Command Language (CCL), Cerner data model architecture, Discern reports, and clinical workflows, along with strong stakeholder-facing communication and solution-design skills.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

Lead the design, development, and optimization of CCL programs, custom scripts, Discern reports, Discern Alerts, MPages data layer integration, and Cerner data migrations.

Develop and enhance custom rules, templates, event sets, queries, DQAs, and PowerInsight/HealtheAnalytics extracts.

Create complex ad-hoc, operational, clinical, and financial reports using CCL and Cerner s reporting tools.

Optimize performance of existing CCL scripts, SQL queries, and data extraction methods.

Solution Architecture & Functional Expertise

Analyze clinical and business requirements to design scalable solutions aligned with Cerner Millenium data models.

Provide expert technical guidance on Cerner Millennium modules (e.g., PowerChart, SurgiNet, RadNet, PharmNet, FirstNet, PathNet).

Collaborate with clinicians, analysts, and IT teams to ensure that all solutions support workflow, compliance, and interoperability needs.

System Integration & Data Management

Design and support interfaces using HL7, FHIR, or Cerner-specific integration frameworks as required.

Work closely with interface teams for CCL-based data mapping, validation, and troubleshooting.

Lead large-scale data conversion and migration activities during upgrades or new implementations.

Testing, Quality Assurance & Support

Perform code reviews, unit testing, system integration testing (SIT), and user acceptance testing (UAT).

Troubleshoot complex CCL issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.

Provide Tier-3 support during go-live, optimization cycles, and upgrades.

Leadership & Collaboration

Mentor junior developers and lead technical workstreams.

Document standards, best practices, architecture diagrams, and governance processes.

Engage with stakeholders to identify opportunities for workflow optimization and automation.

Required Qualifications

12+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing solutions using Cerner CCL in a Cerner Millennium environment.

Deep understanding of Cerner data model, including clinical, financial, and operational domains.

Proven expertise with:

o CCL scripting and optimization

o Discern Reports and Discern Alerts

o PowerInsight/HealtheAnalytics (or related reporting environments)

o CCL debugging, performance tuning, and data validation

Experience supporting multiple Cerner modules and clinical workflows.

Strong background in SQL, relational databases, HL7, FHIR, and healthcare data standards.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with clinical and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with MPages development, JavaScript, or Cerner s RESTful APIs.

Prior involvement in large-scale Cerner implementations, upgrades, or optimizations.

Knowledge of analytics platforms (HealtheIntent, BI tools, etc.).

Cerner certifications or Cerner Academy experience.
