As a Data Solutions Business Analyst, you will work with business users and the Enterprise Reporting and Business Analytics team to create solutions that deliver lasting value. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Analyze business needs and define functional and non-functional requirements that guide data models, reporting solutions, and dashboard designs.
  • Lead the development and execution of test cases and coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business needs.
  • Ensure consistent use of terminology and metrics so that all data consumers interpret and report information accurately across platforms.
  • Design and deliver workshops, drop-in sessions, and training materials to build user skills and confidence with tools and processes.
  • Lead efforts to promote adoption by engaging customers, aligning terminology with business language, and reinforcing consistent use.
  • Manage and maintain business definitions in data governance and data virtualization platforms, ensuring accurate, accessible, and trusted data across the organization.
  • Partner with business owners to refine data terms and resolve reporting issues, enabling reliable decision-making.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you ...
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Have 3+ years of experience in the areas of business or data analysis with a focus on financial or transactional data.
  • Are proficient with reporting and data virtualization tools (e.g. Denodo, Power BI) and committed to learning new technologies.
  • Have experience with SQL for data validation, analysis, and troubleshooting financial and business data.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills and can engage with staff and leadership effectively.
  • Work independently with excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Are detail-oriented and skilled at analyzing and documenting data and reporting requirements.
  • Have experience developing training resources and supporting user adoption initiatives.
  • Hold ship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL's facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

  • Are skilled in writing clear, actionable user stories to support Agile delivery teams.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. $90,000 Annually

Maximum Rate

$350,000 Annually
