Prime Responsibilities and Major Factors in Evaluating Performance:
- Review/prepare welding and process instructions, standards, and specifications for complex castings using techniques requiring extensive dexterity, very close visual attention and welding experience.
- Manage complex projects and programs by providing ownership and responsibility of key manufacturing improvement initiatives.
- Review with Engineering and Quality groups for weld best practice methods and adherence to ISO and AS9100 standards. Provide direction and certify/recertify Repair Welders as required.
- Provide necessary expertise to assist as appropriate effective troubleshooting and resolution to any interruptions and failure analysis. Welds are subject to X-Ray, FPI and other tests to determine of internal weld defects exist.
- Repair defects in castings made from materials which are difficult to weld, such as cobalt, stainless steel, all nickel-based alloys.
- Identify and install key manufacturing processes or enhancements, identify new or alternate manufacturing technologies to increase the factory's cost effectiveness (cost reduction, modernization, ergonomic and quality improvements)
- Provide consultation, direction and mentoring to less experienced manufacturing engineering staff or contractors.
- As the Welding Engineer SME identify and nurture talent within the manufacturing team. Mentor operators and junior engineers, foster a culture of continuous learning, and serve as a bridge between the strategic and the tactical engineering groups.
- Work on an interdisciplinary basis to lead or participate in projects or programs that require cross-functional expertise.
- Identify and implement improvements in corporate business processes and work instructions.
- Analysis of welding conditions.
- Assisting with in-service inspections and evaluations.

- Performs actions defined by customers to complete component manufacturing documentation and obtain customer approvals, as required, to qualify as a source for production of specific products. Interfaces with customer technical personnel in the definition of the most producible and cost-effective component to accomplish customer requirements.
- Investigates and initiates corrective action on manufacturing problems arising in the manufacture of products and in manufacturing problems associated with the inspection and testing of products as it pertains to weld repair of product.
- Establishes operating equipment specifications, improves manufacturing techniques and introduces new process equipment to the welding and NDT inspection process.
- Reviews and evaluates engineering changes and/or other specification requirements and performs technical liaison function with production planning and engineering personnel.
- Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
- Must be capable of delivering on commitments in a timely and efficient manner.
Additional Responsibilities:
- May be involved in training and developing less experienced technical personnel.
- Observe the company code of conduct, safety and quality principles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Material Science, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- 4+ years in engineering / manufacturing environment preferred
- Aerospace or defense experience is a plus.
- 5-10 years of welding engineering experience
- Previous experience with TIG (tungsten Inert Gas) repair welding of parts and components with superalloy materials (NI - nickel, Co - cobalt, Inconel - nickel-chromium-based, not just steel or al - aluminum)
- Knowledge of the practical application of welding science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the welding and fabrication of various products.
- Excellent mechanical and robotic aptitude
- Familiarity with engineering blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to handle physical workload.
- A sense of urgency with the ability to finish work efficiently and accurately in a high-paced environment.
- Must possess good communication and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy is a must, including competency in general MS Office applications, technical computer modeling and statistical tools.
Compensation depends on experience but is typically $90-120K plus 9% profit-sharing bonus
