Description:

The Senior System Administrator (SCADA) will be responsible for the design, programing, and implementation of the new SCADA system(s), as well as providing day to day operational support for the existing system(s). This role is responsible for utilizing and integrating the latest technologies, developments and trends in the Gas PLC and SCADA systems industry to enhance current operations. A successful candidate must have an in-depth working knowledge of SCADA fundamentals as they apply to the utility space. This role requires that the selected candidate maintain a strong working relationship with all management, supervisory, IT and operating staff in their designated area. Clear communications and close coordination with the energy control center is required to support both field and energy distribution operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining currency with latest trends in automation designs and equipment for the Gas industry.

Fluent in all aspects of SCADA System including:

  • AVEVA Enterprise SCADA (formerly OASyS DNA) baseline platform.
  • HMI display development.
  • Realtime Database implementation.
  • Historical Database data interfaces and reports.
  • Gas Measurement Metering.
  • Troubleshoot SCADA software and server issues.
  • Work closely with Field Technicians to configure, test, and troubleshoot data polling from the SCADA System to field RTUs.
  • Work with Gas Control operators to make sure the SCADA system is always providing them the ability to safely operate the pipeline.
  • Program wireless modems (Sierra Wireless and Digi).
  • Build, configure, and maintain reports.
  • Document changes, obtain required approvals, and submit changes.
  • Knowledge of RTU/PLC protocol (Modbus, DNP3, BSAP).
  • Ability to write simple scripts and SQL queries.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement in a small team environment.

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior System Administrator (SCADA) to lead the design, configuration, deployment, and ongoing support of our SCADA systems within the Gas Operations division. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, secure, and efficient operation of gas distribution assets and requires a hands-on expert in AVEVA Enterprise SCADA (formerly OASyS DNA) platforms.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in utility SCADA environments, excellent problem-solving abilities, and strong collaboration skills to interface effectively with field technicians, IT teams, and Gas Control operators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, configure, and implement SCADA system architecture to support gas control operations.
  • Maintain and enhance existing SCADA infrastructure, including software updates, patches, and system improvements.
  • Develop, test, and deploy HMI screens, alarms, real-time and historical data interfaces.
  • Interface with field RTUs and PLCs to ensure accurate data polling and system communication.
  • Collaborate with Gas Control and Field Operations to ensure safe and reliable system performance.
  • Program and configure wireless communication modems (Sierra Wireless, Digi).
  • Develop and maintain operational reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve SCADA software and server issues quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of system architecture, configuration changes, and approvals.
  • Stay current on SCADA/PLC trends, technologies, and security standards relevant to the gas utility industry.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience administering SCADA systems in a utility or industrial automation environment.
  • In-depth expertise in AVEVA Enterprise SCADA (OASyS DNA)
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA protocols: Modbus, DNP3, BSAP.
  • Proficient in HMI development, real-time database configuration, and historical reporting.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining field devices and RTU communication.
  • Basic scripting and SQL skills to support automation and reporting tasks.
  • Familiarity with gas measurement and metering systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with cybersecurity practices for critical infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of system integration, network infrastructure, and SCADA redundancy setups.
  • Prior experience with pipeline operations or gas distribution systems.

Work Environment & Conditions:

  • Standard office environment with occasional field visits to SCADA-controlled facilities.
  • On-call availability may be required for critical incident response or system updates.
  • Must be able to work under pressure in real-time operational settings.
