Data Designer (SQL/Python/AWS)

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Data Designer for a Right to Hire Assignment with one of our premier Regulatory clients in Rockville, MD .

About the Role
We are seeking a highly analytical and customer-focused Data Designer with a strong foundation in SQL, data structures, and schema design.
While this role is titled under the specialty of Data Designer, it leans more heavily on data analysis-the ability to ask the right questions, examine raw data, and provide complete, accurate insights to inform business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze complex datasets to answer business questions with clarity and precision
• Design and understand data schemas, with a working knowledge of how data is structured and stored
• Extract and manipulate data using advanced SQL
• Work with customers and internal stakeholders who may struggle to articulate requirements clearly
• Translate vague or incomplete requests into actionable data analysis tasks
• Present findings in a complete and understandable format, ensuring accuracy and relevance
• Demonstrate empathy and patience when gathering requirements or explaining insights
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, BI, and product

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in SQL
• Hands-on experience with data schema design and data structures
• Solid data analysis background with ability to deliver high-quality insights
• Familiarity with Python for data analysis
• Experience working with AWS and cloud-based data environments
• Exposure to BI tools, notebook-based platforms (e.g., Domino), and data visualization/reporting
• Ability to elicit information and uncover true needs from stakeholders with limited technical knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

• 5-8 years of practical, real-world experience in data analysis or related roles
  (Note: Talent and capability are prioritized over total years of experience)
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
