Title: MicroFocus COBOL Developer (ONLY W2)

Duration: 12 Months (Possibility of extension)

Location: Blythewood, SC 29016 (Onsite)

Job Overview:

Client is seeking an experienced Visual COBOL Developer to support the development, troubleshooting, and enhancement of core business systems within a multi-tiered architecture. The selected candidate will be responsible for implementing new business functionalities and maintaining existing applications using MicroFocus Visual COBOL under IIS on Windows Server 2022. The role involves close collaboration across UI (.NET), database (SQL & Oracle), and business logic layers to support mission-critical Client operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and support Client's web services, and batch business applications.
  • Lead the analysis and troubleshooting of assigned system issues and defects.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Code, test, and deploy enhancements and modifications within the existing application framework.
  • Communicate and coordinate with business users to ensure solution alignment.
  • Support production systems, including root cause analysis and bug fixes.
  • Collaborate across development, UI, and database teams to deliver high-quality results.
  • Provide daily and weekly project status updates to the Development Manager.

Required Skills (Ranked by Importance):

  1. Minimum 8 years of hands-on development experience with MicroFocus Visual COBOL (Windows Server 2019/2022; both batch and under IIS).
  2. At least 4 years of experience using Visual Studio 2019/2022, including strong debugging skills.
  3. At least 4 years of application programming experience using Oracle and/or SQL Server RDBMS.

Preferred Skills (Ranked by Importance):

  • 5 years of experience writing complex SQL queries for Oracle and MS SQL Server databases.
  • 2 years of experience with IIS configuration and setup.
  • 1 year of hands-on development with Microsoft C# .NET.

Required Certifications:

  • Not mandatory, but Microsoft technical certifications will be considered favorably.
  • MicroFocus certifications will be considered a significant advantage in the selection process.
