Job Title: Instructor for Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Program
Location: Ray Brook, NY/ 128 Ray Brook Road, Ray Brook, NY 12977. On-site role. Preferred local candidates
Schedule & Duration
Contract Type: Base Year + 4 Option Years (12 months each)
Instructional Hours:
  • 3 sessions/day, 4 days/week (Mon Thurs)
  • 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM (max 12 hours/week)
  • Total: 350 instructional hours/year
  • Class size: Up to 25 inmates/year
Purpose of the Role
Deliver occupational education in Alcoholism and Substance Abuse to incarcerated adults, preparing them for entry-level employment and meeting Bureau of Prisons (BOP) standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop curriculum and lesson plans
  • Deliver structured instruction and counseling
  • Assess inmate progress and provide statistical reports
  • Interview applicants for program suitability
  • Provide course syllabi and maintain educational materials
  • Coordinate with BOP staff and comply with institutional policies
  • Ensure instructors complete required security and volunteer training
Qualifications
  • Must be a post-secondary institution or vocational training school
  • Licensed and accredited by:
    • New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)
    • Academy of Addiction Studies
  • Must possess a valid provider number
  • All instructors must hold appropriate licenses or certifications
  • Self-employed individuals are not eligible
Security & Compliance
  • Must undergo background checks (NCIC, fingerprinting, credit check, etc.)
  • Adhere to Privacy Act and institutional security protocols
  • Maintain professional conduct and attire
  • No personal management of inmates; maintain boundaries
  • Must complete institution orientation and annual training
Support Provided
  • BOP will supply the necessary equipment and materials
  • The contractor may recommend additional supplies to the Supervisor of Education
