Your Role:

We are currently seeking a Senior Molding Engineer within the Downstream R&D group at MilliporeSigma Process Solutions business unit. In this position, the individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams and be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and optimization of molding processes to develop innovative plastic-based products used in pharmaceutical and biotech applications, with a focus on leveraging advanced knowledge of thermoplastics and polymer processing technologies. This position will be based at our Bedford, MA campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead design and development of injection molds and tooling to meet product specifications. Use Design thinking methodology as a framework to develop novel new products
  • Optimize molding processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions to improve product performance.
  • Manage external mold vendors and internal manufacturing networks to manufacture new products
  • Be responsible for mold qualification and all required documentation
  • Collaborate with product development teams to ensure manufacturability of new designs.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior engineers and production staff
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Lead projects from concept through production using stage gate process, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
  • Ensure effective technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing for seamless production scale-up
  • Manage internal molding lab while maintaining & enhancing its capabilities

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field with 10 years of experience or Master's degree with 7 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding processes and materials.
  • Proficiency in design software and mold design tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to details.
  • Strong written & verbal communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with automation and robotics in molding processes.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device industry is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills.
