Description

SAIC is hiring for a Scientific Systems Engineer for one of our programs supporting the FDA. This candidate will be required to provide general support and engineering for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux workstations in the FDA laboratory and office environment. The ideal candidate shall have expertise in setup, configuration and administration of Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux Scientific Workstations and integrating them with Active Directory/etc.. Independent, motivated individuals with good oral and written communication skills for documenting process and procedures, accountable to work assigned, and briefing reports are desired.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Perform software application maintenance and security administration for scientific workstations running a variety of operating systems including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
Perform and respond to security incidents, escalating as appropriate; including administering the supporting infrastructure
Perform routine and preventative maintenance such as general computer tasks, application loads, disk utilization, system loading and system monitoring, applying operating system patches, Antivirus updates; for both physical and virtual environments
Detect, isolate, document, rapidly report, and resolve system outages or problems encountered during operations of the scientific workstations, which includes the collections of diagnostic data, restoring the system operation, development of workarounds, and other activities necessary for recovery of a system
Accurately document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools
Work directly with the customer in most aspects of the day-to-day activities
Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems, correcting or ensuring that problems are escalated when required. Communicate with users and senior management the status of key problem statuses
Perform maintenance/ installation of computing infrastructure
Maintain and troubleshoot all hardware associated with end-user computing
Implement continuous improvement methodology through the use of IT systems or procedure
Maintain inventory of system assets
Ensure compliance with FDA standards and security policies
Additional responsibilities will include: End user documentation and training, computer moves and deployments, and additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements:

BS with 4-6 years' experience or AS with 5-7 years' experience
o Degree fields include hard science (chemistry, physics), engineering (any), information systems, computer science, MIS
5 - 8 years' workstation administration experience, where candidate has installed and configured Windows, Mac OS systems; some Linux experience is a plus
Experience administrating virmalware services, system scanning tools
Experience handling audits and data calls, responding with artifacts in a structured and efficient manner
Experience in troubleshooting Windows, Mac OS, and Linux workstations
Installed and configured workstation security services
Good knowledge of Windows and Mac OS architecture; Linux is a plus
Experience troubleshooting Windows and Mac OS systems and software
Experience troubleshooting lab instrumentation systems and software
Ability to automate system maintenance via Endpoint management tools or scripting,
Experience with MDM configuration management tools, Jamf is preferred
Ability to communicate about issues, progress and future plans
Effective documentation skills and methods for sharing work
Work on multiple projects and manage time efficiently
Provide a "can do" attitude and look for continual improvements

Any certifications in related areas are a plus -
CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, Linux+
Microsoft (MTA, MCSA, MCSE)
Apple Certified IT Professional
Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP)
Apple Deployment and Management
Jamf Professional
Red Hat RHCSA, RHCE or RHCA is not required but preferred
Any experience supporting biology or scientific workstation and instrumentation users and labs
FDA, HHS, NIH, or related experience
