Short Description:
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services IT Division is seeking an AWS Cloud Engineer to support data modernization initiatives using cloud-native solutions on AWS. The engineer will work closely with the data modernization teams at ITD and DPH to architect, implement, and manage scalable AWS solutions aligned with technical and business objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design and implement complex, secure, and scalable AWS solutions tailored to modernization goals.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and define cloud modernization strategies.
- Develop, test, debug, and deliver solutions using best tools and practices.
- Build and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS services such as VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, and Athena.
- Create and maintain AWS ETL jobs and data pipelines handling high volumes of data.
- Support application modernization efforts including refactoring, re-platforming, and migration.
- Provide technical troubleshooting and ongoing support during all project phases.
- Work with cross-functional teams including developers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Identify architectural risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with technical standards and industry best practices.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and advise the team accordingly.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience using core AWS services (VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue, Athena).
- At least 5 years of experience in application modernization including migration and cloud-native development.
- Strong knowledge of modern database technologies and cloud-based migration strategies.
- 5 years of hands-on experience with DevOps tools and automation practices.
- 3 years of experience creating AWS-based ETL jobs and data pipelines handling high-volume data.
- 7 years of proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate with stakeholders effectively.
- Experience with business intelligence solutions such as Power BI or AWS QuickSight.Highly Desired
- AWS Certification.Highly Desired
- Prior experience working in a State Government or Public Sector environment.Highly Desired
