Job Details

At Apple, we work every single day to craft products that enrich people's lives. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet? As a member of our Wireless Silicon Design group, you will have the outstanding and extraordinary opportunity to build upcoming products that will delight and encourage millions of Apple's customers every single day! In this technical role, you will be at the center of a silicon design group responsible for system design of groundbreaking wireless SoCs for high-data-rate applications. You will focus on innovative solutions for ranging and sensing technologies at the PHY layer. You will closely with software, hardware, and RF/analog engineers, system architectures, and product teams to develop a solution that meets stringent requirements.

Description In this role, you will be responsible for crafting next-generation and proprietary ranging and sensing technologies at the PHY layer. This involves collaborating closely with multiple cross-functional teams, including the radio and analog teams, PHY/MAC systems teams, firmware teams, and product teams, to determine the requirements, develop and implement ranging and sensing designs, validate pre-silicon platforms, bring up post-silicon devices, and optimize performance and reliability. Ultimately, your goal is to deliver a solution that achieves the target requirements and satisfies user-level expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Design and simulate next-generation and proprietary ranging and sensing protocols at the PHY layer.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to comprehend requirements and develop builds that align with those requirements.
  • Collaborate with hardware and firmware designers to ensure robust, flexible, and power- and area-efficient implementations.
  • Test, characterize, validate, and bring up the ranging and sensing designs on pre-silicon and silicon platforms to ensure optimized performance and robustness.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS with a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of communication theory, information theory, or signal processing.
  • Knowledge of ranging and sensing protocols, such as IEEE 802.11az, IEEE 802.11bf, IEEE 802.11bk, IEEE 802.15.4z, IEEE 802.15.4ab.
  • Experience designing PHY algorithms for wireless communication systems.
  • Experience developing ranging and sensing algorithms.
  • Experience implementing and simulating system models in MATLAB, Python, or C/C++.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MSEE or Ph.D. preferred, with a focus on communication systems or signal processing.
  • Strong analytical skills to develop best-in-class designs in terms of performance, power, and area.
  • Experience testing ranging and sensing designs in real-world environments.
  • Experience with multi-resolution algorithms that are used to estimate the first path of arrival for ranging.
  • Experience developing algorithms that lead to hardware- and firmware-friendly designs.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, characterization, and bring-up of silicon in the lab.
  • Experience with lab equipment, such as spectrum analyzer, signal generator.

Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
