Sr. Data Governance Lead

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional program/project management skills, a solid understanding of data governance principles, and proven ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, data stewards, and senior leadership.
Job Description:
This role will be central to designing and implementing our first enterprise-wide data governance framework. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to define and implement data ownership, quality standards, and policies that will form the foundation of our data ecosystem. Below are some of the key responsibilities:
- Data Governance Platform Leadership: Serve as the primary subject matter expert and lead for our Data Governance capability, including managing SteerCo and data governance working groups. Make key decisions and recommendations on process improvement and automation opportunities.
- Data Governance Foundation and Process: Drive the evolution of client’s data governance strategy and operating model, consulting with senior members of the business to manage ongoing processes and drive continuous issue remediation. Work in concert with the data platform team to build, implement and manage report governance and prioritization.
- Data Governance Tooling and MDM: Inform and support the implementation of client’s future MDM tool, ensuring alignment to the overall data strategy and business objectives, and integration with key applications and owners.
- Issue Remediation: Serve as the central point of contact for all in-flight issue remediation initiatives and coordinate with business stakeholders to ensure timely resolution. Manage the issue workflow process and prioritization efforts with key business stakeholders and data partners.
- Data Quality and Stewardship: Lead data quality initiatives and oversee implementation of data quality metrics and dashboards to proactive track and manage progress. Work with data stewards and owners to assign roles and responsibilities. Establish and maintain data dictionaries and repositories to support governance around key applications.
- Deliver Efficiencies: Explore, design, develop, and implement automation opportunities to streamline repetitive data governance tasks, such as metadata definitions, data quality rule creation, and access request workflows.
- Stakeholder Engagement, Communication & Training: Collaborate extensively with data owners, data stewards, business users, IT teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, communicate progress, and drive adoption of data governance initiatives. Present complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences. Facilitate training and awareness programs to drive adoption of governance process and policies.
- Project Leadership: Advise, lead and manage data governance initiatives as part of the overall transformation efforts, including go-live support and readiness across key applications.
- Technical Integration & Architecture: Possess a good technical understanding of data integration patterns, ETL/ELT processes, and API integrations. Collaborate with data engineering and architecture teams to ensure seamless integration of data governance tools within the broader data ecosystem.
- Mentorship & Best Practices: Provide foundational and technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of data governance excellence. Promote best practices for data cataloging, quality, and consumption.
Role on the Team:
Reporting to the VP of Data, AI, and Intelligent Automation, we are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Data Governance Leader to drive the evolution and adoption of data governance capabilities across the client. This critical role will be responsible for leading the strategic implementation and ongoing optimization of our data governance process ensuring the highest standards of data quality, discoverability, and usability across the client.
