About the role

As a Staff Data Engineer (P4), you will play a pivotal role in defining and leading data strategy across various teams and initiatives. Your expertise will shape data architectures that empower analysts, data scientists, and game developers to create exceptional player experiences. You will collaborate across disciplines to drive the development of scalable systems and innovative tooling. Your strategic and technical leadership will significantly influence game insights and engineering culture across the client product lines.

Responsibilities:
  • Define and lead cross-team data engineering initiatives that align with the client's overarching business goals.
  • Architect and implement robust, scalable data systems and reusable data marts to support advanced analytics and predictive modeling.
  • Own the end-to-end design, implementation, and optimization of data pipelines and telemetry systems.
  • Drive data modeling efforts using industry best practices (e.g., Kimball, Inmon methodologies) to meet initiative-level analytical needs.
  • Partner closely with analytics, data science, and game development teams to create impactful, model-ready datasets.
  • Lead technical design discussions, conduct thorough tradeoff analyses, and ensure data architectures are resilient, scalable, and cost-efficient.
  • Champion data quality, governance, and operational excellence; define and uphold Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for data services.
  • Proactively establish and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to ensure data pipeline reliability and observability.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or data architecture.
  • Proven experience leading complex, high-impact technical initiatives.
  • Expertise in Python and SQL.
  • Experience with big data frameworks such as Spark.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud data infrastructures (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform) and associated tools (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery).
  • Mastery of data modeling principles (e.g., dimensional modeling, normalization) and experience designing scalable schemas.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with DBT, Airflow, and Databricks.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts and driving technical design alignment.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with dashboarding and visualization platforms (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience defining and implementing data governance and documentation practices using modern data cataloging tools.
