Overview:
Seeking a Senior Sybase Database Administrator / Engineer with extensive hands-on experience in Sybase ASE and Sybase Transact-SQL. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux environments, cloud migration, automation, and production support, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and optimize performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, support, and maintain Sybase ASE databases in on-premise and AWS cloud environments.
- Perform database upgrades, migrations, performance tuning, replication setup, and high-availability (HA) configuration.
- Automate database operations including backup, monitoring, and configuration using Unix Shell scripting and Python.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and implement performance optimization solutions.
- Manage role-based access control (RBAC) and encryption for secure database operations.
- Provide production support for critical database systems.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver technical consulting and database solutions.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines effectively.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of hands-on Sybase ASE administration and Sybase Transact-SQL experience.
- 10+ years of experience supporting Sybase in Linux environments (on-prem and AWS).
- Proven experience with database upgrades, migrations, and automation using Shell scripting and Python.
- Strong knowledge of AWS database hosting, HA, and performance debugging.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to deliver in fast-paced, multi-project environments.
Additional Information (Application Developer Context):
While primarily focused on Sybase administration, candidates with a strong development background are preferred. Knowledge of software development practices and SDLC is beneficial.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with J2EE, Java, PowerBuilder, C/C++, SQL, Visual Basic, Oracle, Sybase, and MQ Series.
- Experience developing or supporting system-level applications.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Professional certifications are a plus.
