Job Description
As a Systems Engineer, you will support on-site national security mission systems including Design & Architecture, Integration & Testing, Data Analysis, and Capability Development. You will be directly involved in systems planning, installation, commissioning, site surveys, and troubleshooting for custom solutions serving the US national security community and allies.
This role requires deep Linux administration expertise, specifically with CentOS/RedHat 7 and 8, along with virtualization experience using KVM. You'll work in mid-scale deployment operations environments with over 100 servers across multiple sites, managing and troubleshooting custom applications and services in production environments.
The ideal candidate brings strong Linux system administration experience, has worked in similar complex environments, and holds an active security clearance. You'll work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team with significant responsibilities supporting critical national security missions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and maintain various technical equipment, including server components and software.
  • Manage virtual servers using KVM virtualization technology.
  • Supervise and perform troubleshooting of hardware and software issues.
  • Run diagnostics, document problems, prioritize resolutions, and assess risk.
  • Assist with OEM level design and development of internal solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Design, test, and implement process and systems automation capabilities.
  • Deploy, troubleshoot, and manage servers running CentOS/RedHat 7 and 8.
  • Identify and remediate issues with software and operating systems independently.
  • Work with production environments spanning 100+ servers across multiple sites.
  • Manage and troubleshoot custom applications and services for data movement and delivery.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for complex production environment issues.
  • Support application servers, database servers, and interdependent worker services.
  • Create installation guides and as-built documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance on key projects locally and in the field.

Required Experience/Skills
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • 3-5+ years of Linux/Unix system administration experience.
  • Very strong understanding of Linux Operating System, specifically CentOS/RedHat 7 and 8.
  • Experience with KVM virtualization from day one.
  • 2+ years of direct experience in systems design & architecture, integration & testing, data analysis, and capability development.
  • Mid-scale deployment operations experience with 100+ servers across multiple sites.
  • Experience with custom applications and services deployment and management.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and solving problems in complex systems environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal assistance on OS-related issues.
  • Experience with production environment incident recovery and escalation.
  • Ability to obtain medical clearance for travel.
  • Ability to support short-term international travel (5%-10% to OCONUS locations).

Nice-to-Haves
  • Understanding of mobile telecom network architectures and related hardware, software, and protocols.
  • Experience working directly with development teams to resolve software and hardware problems.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, NAT, routing and switching.
  • Experience with analyzing logs, stack traces, debug libraries, software/hardware.
  • Understanding of Python, Bash, and SQL databases.
  • Experience with Linux firewall and VPN configuration.
  • Experience applying software and hardware patches.

Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, or related field (or relevant experience as substitute).
