Senior Specialty Coder | Remote | TX, LA, AR, NM or GA | Contract to Hire
 
Walker Healthforce is seeking a Senior Specialty Coder for a healthcare client located in TX, LA, AR, NM or GA. This is a contract position.
 
Eligible candidates MUST be local to TX, LA, AR, NM or GA.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Assign accurate diagnosis, procedure, and treatment codes using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT in accordance with official coding guidelines.
  • Abstract relevant data into the companies health’s electronic medical record (EMR) systems with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure accurate admission and discharge disposition documentation.
  • Consistently maintain 95% or greater coding accuracy and meet established productivity benchmarks for chart types.
  • Monitor and manage accounts in ABS Hold, resolving errors and finalizing charts promptly.
  • Collaborate with HIM and Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to resolve missing or unclear documentation.
  • Participate in internal and external audit reviews, reporting errors, hospital-acquired conditions (HACs), and trends proactively.
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Uphold AHIMA’s Standards of Ethical Coding.
  • Support solutions to reduce billing denials and back-end errors.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in coding Inpatient and/or Outpatient medical records.
  • Specialty coding certifications (e.g., CUC, CGSC, COSC, CEDC) are preferred to support the complexity of this role
  • Possess own laptop and two monitors to support remote work and coding efficiency
 
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Completion of an AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate Program, or a Baccalaureate degree in Health Informatics or Health Information Management
  • Specialty coding certification(s) in relevant fields (e.g., Urology, General Surgery, Ortho, Pain, Anesthesia, OB/GYN, Endo)
