Job Title: Healthcare Technical Writer
Location: Remote

Type: Contract
Compensation: $53/HR

ALTA IT is seeking an experienced Healthcare Technical Writer with a strong background in health insurance and claims documentation. This role will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and maintaining clear, accurate, and compliant documentation related to claims processes, policies, systems, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The ideal candidate will be skilled in translating complex claims workflows, system requirements, and business processes into user-friendly materials for technical teams, business stakeholders, and end users.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for health insurance claims processes, policies, systems, and SOPs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop and update SOPs to clearly outline step-by-step procedures for claims processing and related operational workflows.
  • Translate complex claims workflows, business rules, and system requirements into clear, concise technical documents, user guides, training materials, and reference manuals.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, claims specialists, IT teams, and subject matter experts to gather requirements and verify content accuracy.
  • Develop templates, style guides, and standardized documentation practices to ensure consistency across deliverables.
  • Review and edit existing documentation for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to organizational standards.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) by creating test scripts, documenting results, and ensuring alignment between documented processes and system behavior.
  • Maintain version control and ensure timely updates to documentation following system or process changes.
  • Ensure that documentation meets accessibility and usability standards for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience as a technical writer, with a focus on health insurance claimsdocumentation.
  • Proven experience developing SOPs and process documentation.
  • Strong understanding of claims processing systems, terminology, and workflows.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, including IT, business operations, and compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Confluence, SharePoint).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the health insurance or healthcare payer industry.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements affecting claims processing (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Experience writing for both technical and non-technical audiences.
