Outpatient Surgery Coding Coordinator

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Outpatient Surgery Coding Coordinator for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier Healthcare Services clients . This position is fully remote.

Responsibilities :

• Must have and maintain an expert level of knowledge and application of coding guidelines, rules, and conventions.
• Monitors daily workflow to assure organizational, departmental, and team goals are met.
• Prepare weekly timely filing reports, is responsible for multiple work queues including but not limited to claim edits, mortality, coding questions, customer service/PFS, denials, combined/uncombined.
• Performs coding audits and reports results to the coding manager.
• Develops coding education materials in collaboration with the coding manager and delivers education to coding and/or CDI teams including but not limited to I-10 updates, CPT, HCPCS, audit and/or edit trends, compliant queries, and system updates.
• Works in collaboration with coding leadership and other departments to provide coding support through data analysis and system functionality.
• Functions as a subject matter expert for the coding team and other personnel to answer questions, assist with problem resolution, and special projects assigned by department leadership.
• Provides back up coverage for the coding team as needed.
• Provides new coder onboarding education/ training in collaboration with the coding manager.
• Assist coding manager with the interview process for potential coder candidates as requested.
• Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions:
  • Directly interacting with or caring for patients;
  • Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants;
  • Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records);
  • Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills :

• Three to five (3-5) years acute hospital based coding experience and documented progression of leadership capacity based on past experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• EPIC EMR and 3M 360 encoder Experience
• CPC and/or CCS credentials (preferred to also have CIRCC credential.)

Preferred Skills :

• Preferred Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree in Health Information Management and/or closely related field.
