Overview

Modern Technology Solutions Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Systems Engineer SME who has achieved an expert level of subject-matter expertise who is recognized nationally for thought-leadership and proficiency level. This individual will lead development and implementation of key programs and/or processes for the organization and will provide advice and counsel to the organization in their area of expertise. They may have additional leadership responsibilities, will operate effectively receiving only broad direction, and will build effective working relationships (internal/customer(s)) located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Responsibilities

As a Systems Engineer SME at MTSI, you will provide support to the Commander, System Delta 82 located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Your essential job functions will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Successfully research, design, and lead the technical aspects of work resulting in a successful completion within the specified framework (funding, time).
  • Serve as expert for time critical technical projects/test/tasks requiring senior level tech expertise.
  • Lead large, complex tech projects; applies advanced analytical and engineering principles to efficiently solve project-relevant tech problems.
  • Contribute to development of unit.
  • Be recognized as an external and internal technical expert within own strategic function (s). Solves unique/complex problems w/broad impact on the customer/business.
  • Accountable for the quality/timely delivery of all tech contract deliverables.
  • Ensure task related products are consistent in format/content w/overall project deliverables.
  • Routinely engage w/Govt tech representative + teammates/subcontractor tech leads.
  • Proactively engage and influence internal and/or external customers regarding challenges, product, or solution design and improvements.
  • Frequently operate w/no direct supervision in a complex environment.
  • Mentor others within your projects; and others as appropriate to help them be successful.
  • Consistently research/track new industry tech trends/research w/in tech specialty.
  • Routinely work/interface directly w/other senior-level customers and teammates with poise and business acumen.
  • Clearly explain results, processes, and methodologies to external customers in both formal/informal settings.
  • Deliver high-level presentations using a variety of communication delivery methods.
  • Expert in multiple tech areas. Demonstrates expert understanding of the tech concepts for focus area(s).
  • Fully apply advanced engineering and analytical principles, theories, concepts to job assignments.
  • Ability to discern what is required to achieve the desired end-state + successful approach.
  • Leadership: Leads and influences work of multiple Senior Engineers/Analysts to achieve a cohesive final product.
  • Interpret internal/external customer issues; recommend solutions/best practices.
  • Exhibit expert technical proficiency in solving uniquely complex problems.
  • Apply lessons learned and skills to solve problems significantly different than those previously encountered.
  • Demonstrate ability to take a complex problem and build a comprehensive approach and solution including leading and directing the work of others.
  • Ability to predict potential issues/challenges with current approach before they occur.
  • Perform challenging and unpredictable work. Advise others on standards, methods, and tools.
  • Be recognized as expert in own area; an external/internal thought leader; req specialized depth and breadth of expertise.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 years of extensive, relevant experience including duties/assignments specifically in support of space programs.
  • Military/intelligence space systems SME, recognized industry leader.
  • Experience with the MS Office Suite of Tools including MS Project, MS Planner, and MS Teams.
  • Deep understanding of mission critical aspects of acquisition and DoD space launch, ground systems, and sustainment and associated projects.
  • Completely comfortable with HAF, USSF, HHQ, and subordinate unit processes and procedures, and able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing for acquisition, operations, and headquarters audiences.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Over 25 years of experience including in a senior management support role, executive support, or Chief of Staff position.
  • Proven experience as a Materiel Leader, Senior Materiel Leader, Squadron Commander, Group Commander, Wing Commander, or Delta Commander.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree & 20+ years of experience in related field.
  • Or, Master's degree & 18 years of experience in related field.
  • Or, PhD in related field & 15 years of experience in related field.
  • Or, equivalent total experience in related field.

Security Clearance Level Required:
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with Special Access Program (SAP) eligibility is required for this position.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $160,000/year to $195,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
