Basic Purpose
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Cognitive Engineering is a senior leader within the Enterprise Data and Information Management (EDIM) organization. This role is responsible for shaping and executing Client's enterprise strategy for data science, advanced analytics, and applied artificial intelligence (AI).
The AVP leads the AI Center for Enablement, driving innovation, operational excellence, and scalable AI capabilities. They foster a culture of AI-as-a-service, enabling business units to harness AI technologies effectively and realize measurable value.
This leader oversees enterprise AI platform design and implementation, ensures alignment with governance and strategic goals, and transitions AI solutions from incubation to production. The role serves as a catalyst for innovation, talent development, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
  • Define and lead the strategic vision for Cognitive AI, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Machine Learning capabilities.
  • Provide executive oversight of the AI Center for Enablement, ensuring enterprise-wide adoption and measurable business value.
  • Oversee development and implementation of AI platforms (e.g., AI Foundational Platform) in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Engineering, and partners.
  • Partner with senior leaders to identify high-impact AI use cases and accelerate transition from incubation to production.
  • Establish governance frameworks for ethical, secure, and explainable AI use.
  • Drive research, prototyping, and enterprise adoption of emerging AI technologies (LLMs, NLP, Generative AI, Agentic AI).
  • Build strategic partnerships with AI vendors, cloud providers, and consulting firms.
  • Accelerate AI capability adoption across the enterprise, delivering workforce productivity and process efficiencies.
  • Deliver an enterprise-wide AI Literacy program in partnership with Talent Development.
  • Develop and scale high-performing AI Engineering and Operations teams.
  • Define success metrics to measure AI initiative impact and ensure enterprise alignment.
  • Enable federated AI development through communities of practice and democratized tools.
  • Oversee project planning, resource allocation, and budget management, applying Scaled Agile (SAFe) principles.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in AI, Data Science, and Advanced Analytics, including leadership of enterprise-scale Generative/Agentic AI initiatives.
  • Proven track record in deploying and scaling AI solutions (LLMs, Agentic AI, prompt engineering) in cloud-native, production-grade environments.
  • Expertise with AI platforms and technologies (Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, Model Garden, Control Plane).
  • Strong background in cloud architecture, scalable system design, and secure AI platforms.
  • Experience delivering AI-augmented productivity tools (GitHub Copilot, IBM Watsonx, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success in implementing AI Literacy programs across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Extensive leadership experience managing AI Engineering & Operations teams.
  • Strong knowledge of AIOps practices, including MLOps, observability, and automated remediation.
  • Skilled in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) for managing complex AI programs.
  • Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related technical field.
  • Knowledge of Client standards, instructions, and procedures.
  • Deep expertise in banking/financial industry trends and enterprise products/services.
  • Experience leading an AI Center for Enablement.
  • Experience building/supporting enterprise-grade APIs.
