Role Overview


This is a senior leader position on the AWM Sustainability & Impact ("S&I") team driving the strategic direction, integration, and value creation of the Sustainability & Impact program across the AWM Private Investing business.


It will drive implementation of ESG and sustainability initiatives across the AWM Private Investing business, including building out and managing the Sustainability Center of Excellence for the Value Accelerator. This role is responsible for ensuring key sustainability initiatives are delivered upon in a consistent way across the AWM Private business units and will be a key point of connection in sustainability with other areas, including the Value Accelerator, Alternatives Capital Formation ("ACF"), HCM, Fund & Information Management, and Engineering.This role will also support the strategic direction of the business, including new initiatives with a focus on developing a platform for sustainability to drive value accretive sustainability / ESG focused programs across data management and analytics, communications, reporting, and the Value Accelerator. Additionally, this person will help manage the Sustainability & Impact team, including hiring, training, and mentoring and managing the budgeting process.


This role will report into the Global Head of Sustainability & Impact for the AWM Private Markets Investing business.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the strategic direction of the program and associated program deliverables for the S&I team to ensure timely execution, consistency, and level of excellence across AWM Private businesses
    • Activities include:
    • Oversee development of overarching annual team goals and setting of KPIs
    • Develop and manage program dashboards and reporting of progress across AWM Private Markets Investing and AWM broadly
    • Track and support program deliverables across team to drive and meet program goals; ensure diverse stakeholders are aware of efforts and objectives
    • Manage the AWM Private Sustainability Leadership Council, helping set the agenda, develop materials and working with Business Unit Leaders and COOs to ensure clarity of strategy and goals
    • Oversee benchmarking initiatives to monitor progress, share market insights and track AWM Private position in the market
    • Lead hiring and general management for the S&I team, including managing weekly team meeting, developing a mentor program and setting up coaching and team building efforts
    • Ensure ongoing education for team and plugging into industry networks
    • Manage budget for teams and competing priorities to ensure team has budget to accomplish key goals
  • Lead program management of the Sustainability Optimization of Excellence for AWM Private Value Accelerator ("VA")
    • In collaboration with the S&I team, Business Unit Leaders, the Value Accelerator, and deal teams, develop the Sustainability Optimization Center of Excellence to support portfolio companies in developing robust, value-accretive sustainability programs (both bottom- and top-line) throughout the investment lifecycle
    • Activities may include:
    • Roll-out playbooks to support webinars for new initiatives, such as employee engagement, sustainability reporting, circular business models, and vet and coordinate resources on those topics (i.e. employee engagement survey providers) to help companies at the beginning of their journeys
    • Source and vet consultants and tools to support the program
    • Embed goal-setting and tracking within existing Value Accelerator processes
    • Develop communications plan internally, for portfolio companies, and clients to demonstrate value-creation for portfolio companies
    • CSO Network: create community of sustainability leaders and organize events on critical topics. Support ongoing content and communications among members
    • Oversee development of Sustainability Optimization webpage
    • Work with VA advisors and internal team to keep them updated on new Sustainability Optimization initiatives to integrate them with other Center of Excellence initiatives
    • Oversee development of case studies demonstrating value created at portfolio companies as a result of initiatives undertaken
    • Develop education and training programs and materials on key sustainability themes
    • Work with Head of Sustainability, ESG Business Leads, and deal teams in creating value-creation plans for each investment and ensuring monitoring and reporting of results, including the development of case studies for selected portfolio companies
    • Onboarding of portfolio companies onto sustainability platform and new advisors to support the Center of Excellence
  • Support Inclusive Growth initiatives across the division: setting and tracking of divisional goals and developing tools to support them, including:
    • Oversee board diversity initiative for portfolio companies
    • Support development of Inclusive Growth initiates to drive a more diverse, equitable and inclusive culture within our portfolio companies and business (i.e. employee engagement).
  • Oversee AWM Private Sustainability communications and marketing
    • Oversee development of communication materials for internal and external stakeholders
    • Ensure consistent messaging across business and professional communications throughout all marketing materials (i.e. websites, powerpoints, newsletters, etc.)
  • Oversee ESG Data Management program
    • Oversee ESG data program including vendor relationships, provide oversight on the data collection process
    • Oversee data analytics and insights for portfolio companies and business units
    • Ensure quality control in reporting efforts and proper governance protocols and systems are established and maintained

Qualifications:


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and key skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required; 6+ years of experience
  • Experience in a global organization managing critical aspects of a sustainability program.
  • Experience managing a team, driving program deliverables and coordinating across matrixed environment.
  • Strong sustainability expertise across E, S and G programs, building tools and capabilities to achieve business goals
    • Understanding of foundational sustainability concepts: Life Cycle Assessments, Net Zero targets and decarbonization, sustainable operations, responsible sourcing, DEI initiatives, data collection and governance, sustainability reporting, sustainable goal setting and tracking, etc.
  • Ability to manage various stakeholders, across seniority levels and functions, to achieve goals and deliver on projects.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented and organized with strong professional writing and presentation-creation skills.
  • Thorough, mature, and professional.
  • A commitment to excellence, integrity and collaboration is a must.
  • Preference for Masters degree in concentrations in Business Administration or Sustainability.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word with some awareness of business intelligence software and software tools.

Salary Range

The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $125000-$250000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
