Sunnyvale CA - Hybrid
12 months
Summary:
The main function of a hardware prototype engineer is to research, design, develop, test high-density, wearable electronics. The candidate will work with emerging technologies in a fast-paced team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Take end-to-end ownership of hardware designs, including creating new designs and modifications of existing designs.
- Review and create product prototypes, working models or theoretical models constructed with computer simulation.
- Write detailed functional specifications and design flow/tradeoff.
- Support new technology investigation.
- Act as a general hardware expert to engineering staff and consult specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance requirements of the overall system.
- Provide training and support to system designers and internal users.
- Design and develop hardware and support peripherals, including system-on-chip (SoC), support logic, microprocessors, custom integrated circuits, and system interconnection.
- Direct technicians, engineering designers or other technical support personnel as needed.
- Candidates will be evaluated based on their deliverables in hardware design and prototype builds, as well as documentation and communications with cross-functional teams.
Skills:
- Good EE fundamentals.
- High density Rigid/flex board design and system integration experience.
- Hands on lab skills. Rapid prototyping with what's available. Can-do attitude.
- Project ownership and resolve to drive projects with high ambiguity, multiple paths, and fuzzy future to clarity.
- Embedded software basics (Android, Linux, RTOS or Baremetal). Experience in working with software teams to go deep in hard problem solving, often entangled with both hardware and software.
- Understanding some of the core tech areas, such as SoC, sensor, wireless, audio, display, interfaces (USB, MIPI, PCIE, SPI, I2C). Capable of designing, bringing up and evaluating projects from those areas.
- Use automation to help teams improve project quality, as well as scale to more projects.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
Note:
Contract term 1 year, renewable, as we will look ahead for the product roadmap for years.
The position should be local (hybrid) and expect some lab work in the Sunnyvale office.
Hiring Questions:
- Top must-have HARD skills:
- Hardware bring up, troubleshooting and validation (hands on)
- Experience working with software teams to bring a hardware system.
- Years of experience required
- >7 years relevant experience. Product shipping experience is strongly preferred.
- Key performance measurements
- End to end ownership of projects and being able to actively drive results.
- Deliver high quality hardware prototypes or process
- Able to handle ambiguity in early technology development
- Degrees or certifications required
Bachelor of engineering/science or above
- Disqualifiers
- Very narrowed domain expert such as ONLY doing SI/PI simulation, PCB, RF, test in recent experience. Domain expertise is always a plus, however, needs to be built on general EE experience (system level design, integration, bring up, etc) for this role.
- Don t like to take on risks and challenges. As the new technology investigation team, we take risks and challenges more than all other teams at Meta. The projects are often ambiguous and exploratory.
