Job Title: Maintenance & Technical (M&T) Instructor - remote
Location: Bellevue, Washington
Type: Contract
Compensation: $53 - $70 hourly
Contractor Work Model: Remote
System One is supporting a nuclear technology project team working on the Natrium Demonstration Project (NDP). At its core, the team is focused on delivering innovative, safe, and efficient nuclear energy solutions and related applications. The company's mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies, while fostering the development of innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field. Activities span nuclear energy, hybrid energy systems, and medical isotope innovations - all targeting significant improvements to human health and energy access globally.
The M&T Training Instructor - Mechanical reports directly to the M&T Training Manager and focuses on the development of M&T training programs and materials for the Natrium Demonstration Project (NDP). In this role, the instructor will help establish the programs, processes, and procedures necessary to build and operate a comprehensive M&T training framework. Success will depend on effective integration with other departments, project partners, regulators, and external organizations supporting operator training. Currently seeking instructors with the following experience:
- Training and Instruction on Mechanical Systems - Deliver in-depth instruction on operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of nuclear plant mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, turbines, and heat exchangers.
- Developed Hands-On Training Exercises - Design and execute practical lab sessions, mock-up scenarios, and OJT to build mechanical maintenance skills.
- Ensured Adherence to Maintenance Procedures - Instruct on correct use of procedures, manuals, and work packages while emphasizing safety and compliance.
- Assessed and Qualified Mechanical Technicians - Conduct evaluations through exams, performance checks, and hands-on assessments.
- Develop M&T training processes, programs, and procedures to meet internal standards and external regulatory requirements (NRC, INPO).
- Create and implement a strategy for initial accreditation of training programs.
- Apply the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) to produce high-quality training for maintenance and technical staff.
- Update training based on design or procedural changes.
- Participate in the Training Curriculum Review Committee and cross-departmental coordination.
- Prepare trainee evaluations and exams across various learning environments (classroom, lab, simulator).
- Create procedures for performance evaluations, counseling, and individual development plans.
- Incorporate relevant operating experience, plant updates, regulations, and lessons learned into training content.
- Participate in NRC, INPO, and internal audits; contribute to corrective actions.
- Maintain strong technical knowledge of plant systems and training techniques.
- Manage and retain compliant, auditable training records.
- Support department budgeting and goal-setting for assigned areas or projects.
- Minimum 2 years of commercial nuclear power plant mechanical maintenance experience; 4+ years of military nuclear experience may substitute.
- Expertise in analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating M&T training programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to training quality.
- Integrity, openness, teamwork orientation, and respect for others.
- Understanding of regulatory impacts and accountability in nuclear operations.
- Flexible and adaptable to changes in plant design, procedures, or project needs.
