What You Will Do
Be part of an amazing engineering team here at the nation's greatest R&D facility. As a Process Engineer you will be a member of the Transuranic Liquid Waste facility (TLW) Operations Team. You will be responsible for providing support in wastewater processing to the Operations Manager.
Safety and security are primary responsibilities for all Laboratory employees. You will be required to maintain safety and security training and ensure compliance; make safety and security an integral part of every task and take steps to stop work if unsafe conditions exist or security is compromised. You will be responsible for applying and interpreting, on a broad basis, existing discipline-specific engineering and scientific principles, techniques, methods and tools to provide solutions for a wide assortment of complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of causal relationships which are difficult to establish while adhering to engineering policies, programs, procedures and practices. You will mentor junior staff, peers, students and/or post-docs in technical and professional growth. You will model a mutually respectful work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and that supports cooperation, teamwork, and resource sharing. You will also actively participate in professional societies, National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy Complex interactions, special assignments, and/or external special interest groups. May participate in external working groups and/or assist in organizing meetings and colloquia.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Water Treatment Systems: Demonstrated experience with and/or education pertaining to Water or Wastewater Treatment Systems such as micro-filters, reverse osmosis units, fluid conveyance equipment, ion exchange and solid waste handling and disposal. Demonstrated knowledge of Design and Operation of Water or Wastewater Treatment Systems.
Clean Water Act : Demonstrated knowledge /experience with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) (Clean Water Act Section 402, 40 CRF 122) permit application preparation, requirements and compliance.
Development & Training : Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in procedure development and training.
Communication Skills : Strong interpersonal skills in both verbal and written communications and the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of staff and management.
Project Management: Thorough knowledge of and experience in designing, planning, and executing water or wastewater treatment systems.
Research & Development : Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in implementing policies affecting research and development activities, projects, and/or initiatives.
Education/Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2 Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related science, 2 years of job-related experience and 1 year of nuclear experience. Job-related education or experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement per section I 4.e of this CRD.
