Job Description:

Product managers leading CMS migrations in retail environments must serve as strategic orchestrators who bridge technical implementation with business outcomes. The role extends far beyond traditional product management, requiring end-to-end ownership of a complex organizational transformation rather than a simple technology upgrade.

Primary responsibilities include:

Technical roadmap development In partnership with the solution architect, creating detailed migration timelines that account for content modeling transformation, API integration rewiring, and platform-specific feature implementation
Cross-functional team coordination - Managing relationships across IT, marketing, sales, operations, and compliance teams while maintaining alignment on migration objectives
Risk management and mitigation - Identifying potential data loss scenarios, SEO ranking impacts, and operational disruptions while developing comprehensive contingency plans
Stakeholder communication - Translating technical constraints into business language while maintaining executive support for hard migration deadlines

Enterprise stakeholder management

Enterprise CMS projects require sophisticated stakeholder management across multiple organizational levels and functions; stakeholder alignment is more critical than technical execution for project success.

Key stakeholder categories include:

Executive sponsors - Must provide unwavering support for hard migration deadlines and resource allocation

IT leadership - Responsible for technical architecture decisions and systems integration

Business units - Marketing, sales, and operations teams who are primary system users

Compliance/legal teams - Ensuring GDPR, SOC2, and industry-specific regulatory adherence
