About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Front End Engineer who will serve as a lead engineer for a cross-functional team building transformative AI agents for HR & Finance. This role is critical in defining the tooling strategy, staying ahead of industry trends, and ensuring our AI-driven solutions seamlessly integrate deeply within the Workday stack.
You'll be instrumental in shaping the user experience and developer productivity for our next generation of AI-powered features. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your deep front-end expertise to build impactful, scalable solutions that redefine how businesses operate.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. Primary Location Base Pay Range: $179,200 USD - $268,800 USD
Additional US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $170,200 USD - $302,400 USD

About the Role

What you'll do:
- Own new and existing UI features in our React application, from technical design to release, from inception to production.
- Own the developer experience of Frontend development via continuous improvements to our UI infrastructure and tooling.
- Own the frontend build pipeline and make it more robust and efficient.
- Write high-quality, easy-to-maintain-and-extend code with plenty of tests and built-in observability.
- Work as part of an Agile team in a collaborative environment where you regularly plan and implement tasks to scale and expand our rapidly growing enterprise-grade SaaS product.
- Have a major impact on the professional growth and productivity levels of your teammates through design and code reviews, technical guidance, and mentoring.
About You
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in front-end software development with a demonstrated commitment to delivering an exceptional user experience.
- 5+ years of experience with Javascript and/or Typescript.
- 3+ years of experience with React + Redux.
- 3+ years of experience with HTML + CSS.
Other Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of software engineering best practices and agile development processes
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written
- 3+ years of experience using testing frameworks like Jest, Enzyme, or React Testing Library to ensure code quality.
- 1+ years of experience using frontend build tools like Webpack, Parcel, or Rollup for bundling and optimizing code.
- 1+ years of experience with backend development experience with Python (Flask/FastAPI/Django, PostgreSQL on AWS)
- 1+ years of experience with CI/CD and Github Actions
- Experience with web UI accessibility (a11y) is a plus
- Experience with UI performance optimization is a plus
- Experience with data visualization concepts and libraries is a plus
- Experience with building or integrating rich online editors is a plus
- Experience with databases (relational and non-relational) and ORMs is a plus
- Experience with AWS, or similar cloud computing platforms is a plus
