Description
SAIC is recruiting for a Systems Programmer/Analyst for our NOAA GFDL program. This individual will be supporting climate code and algorithm transitions to new computing architectures and paradigms, in a structured team environment. The programmer will also participate in various algorithm improvements and code optimization initiatives, as well as serving as a Model Support liaison between Scientists and the Modeling Services team for the purposes of scientific code development. Attending code reviews, planning development meetings, Running Computer Climate Models for the purposes of regression testing and Documentation of production software are other roles included in this position. This position reviews, analyzes, develops, installs, and modifies computer operating systems and systems utilities and applications.

The candidate (1) analyzes and resolves problems at the system, network, or user level; (2) troubleshoots the function and performance of system utilities; (3) works to develop new capabilities and optimize performance; and (4) detects, diagnoses, and reports related problems.

The ideal candidate must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The candidate performs a variety of complex tasks and a substantial degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Math, Computer Science, Engineering or Physical Science e.g. (Meteorology, Physics) and 5+ years of related experience (or comparable experience/degree)
  • Proficiency in Linux and basic Linux administration - Proficiency in Modern Programming Languages e.g. (C++, Visual Basic, ABAP, JAVA, XTML, Objective C, HTML 5, .NET, etc.)
  • Candidate must be willing to learn other languages e.g. FORTRAN - Demonstrated ability to learn new programming languages and technical skills
  • Professional knowledge in one or more physical science fields
  • Technical Writing Experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Independent self-starter
  • ship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance
