The Senior Manager, Payroll and HRIS is responsible for the strategic oversight and day-to-day operations of the organization's payroll and human resource information systems (HRIS). This role ensures the accurate and compliant processing of payroll while also optimizing HR technology platforms to support HR operations, reporting, and workforce planning. The position requires a proactive leader with deep technical expertise in payroll and HRIS systems, exceptional analytical capabilities, and a strong understanding of compliance requirements and business processes.

The annual starting salary for this position is between $120,000 - $150,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities :
Payroll Management:
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for ~5200 employees in the US, Canada, India and Mexico.
- Lead the payroll team, providing coaching, development, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, labor laws, and company policies. Stay current on legislation and industry trends affecting payroll practices.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Legal departments on payroll-related matters, including benefits, equity, and employee classifications.
- Review and approve payroll reports, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Manage relationships with payroll vendors and stay updated on technology solutions to improve efficiency.
- Ensure accurate year-end processes including W-2s, 1099s, T4s, and audit preparation.
- Lead payroll system upgrades or transitions as needed.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to prevent payroll errors or fraud.
- Serve as the system owner and subject matter expert for the HRIS (Workday).
- Lead the configuration, implementation, and optimization of HR technology systems to support organizational goals.
- Ensure data integrity, system security, and compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Develop and deliver standard and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and metrics to support HR and business leadership.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (HR, IT, Finance) to automate workflows and improve system efficiency.
- Manage and develop a team of payroll and HRIS specialists or analysts.
- Drive continuous process improvement and operational excellence in payroll and HRIS functions.
- Evaluate current technologies and recommend enhancements or new systems to meet evolving organizational needs.
- Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures for payroll and HRIS functions.
- Ensure readiness for internal and external audits; respond to audit inquiries as needed.
Education & Experience :
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in payroll and HRIS administration.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional projects.
- Experience with international payroll is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with leading HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday (preferred) and Oracle (preferred)).
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
- Workday Pro HCM Core
- SHRM-SCP, PHR, or equivalent HR certification
- Deep knowledge of payroll compliance requirements, tax regulations, and labor laws.
- Expertise in HR systems administration, configuration, implementation, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee data
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and lead a team effectively
