Job Position: Out of County Social Worker III (Foster Care)
Job Location: Department of Health & Human Services - Social Services
Address: 330 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Gastonia, NC 28052
Appointment: Up to 40 hours/week, Non-exempt/Eligible for Overtime
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am 5:00 pm (other than holidays)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned, but are identified as those that are essential for an employee to perform:
- Provides social work services to children who are in the legal custody of DSS and residing in foster care.
- Arranges out-of-home placement, monitors placement, and arranges court-ordered visitation between parents and children.
- Ensures that the child receives all necessary services (medical, dental, educational) just as a child s parent would provide.
- Develops a plan of care and works with natural parents to hopefully return the child to natural parents.
- Gathers extensive documentation to legally proceed with the termination of parental rights for the child to be cleared for adoption.
- 7-day visits
- Monthly face-to-face contacts & home visits (2 every quarter)
- Completes monthly Foster Care contact record and monthly Day Sheets
- Provide documentation to DSS in support of permanent plans within 3 business days
- Assist with sibling visits, supervise family visits
- Contact collaterals, update Life Books, respond to Emergencies
- Participate in family conferences when requested
- Must be available to work mandatory emergency shelters & other duties/tasks as needed or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Requires a Masters Degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or a Bachelor s Degree in social work from and accredited school of social work with a Child Welfare Collaborative (CPS positions only); or a bachelor s degree in social work and one year of experience in the area of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy or treatment planning; or a four year degree in human service field with at least 25 semester hours of approved coursework and two years of experience in a related area; or a four year degree and three years related experience.
- Must have valid Driver s License and full coverage auto insurance.
- Good communication skills in working with children & adolescents, and appropriate child development knowledge.
- Knowledge of the separation and loss impact for children being removed from their family and home environment would be especially helpful.
The applicant selected must provide a copy of transcripts and undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL OR ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
