Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) Mobile React Native Test Automation

For context, I m driving a large initiative I m calling the Quality-Driven Development Game Plan where we are getting our developers to own the quality of the products that their team owns (this means writing test automation in parallel with app code development). SDETs are leveling up to no longer be embedded on agile teams but be focused on E2E testing coordination across multiple teams to support larger initiatives and then also be automation experts and coaches to the development teams. I ve been upskilling my current SDETs as much as possible, but I think I ll be swapping folks out over time for people that have more automation expertise and strong communication skills. From a sourcing perspective maybe look at folks that have been lead SDETs where they are helping coordinate across multiple SDETs and comfortable working with multiple teams. You might also find a developer that has been doing automation as part of their day to day (developer that lists out Playwright/Vitest/Maestro/Detox/Jest automation in their resume).

Meijer is seeking highly skilled Software Development Engineers in Test (SDETs) to join our Digital organization. This role is critical in advancing our mobile app and web capabilities for eCommerce pickup and delivery. We are looking for someone with deep expertise in React Native and strong experience in test automation, ideally with Payload CMS or other multi-platform headless CMS solutions like Contentful. The engineers will have development experience as well as testing and test automation experience. SDETs will advocate for quality and maintain shared automation tooling. They will also coordinate cross-team testing and perform exploratory testing. The SDETs will embrace the role of quality champion across the Digital organization. What You'll Be Doing (Responsibilities)
Drive Quality and Automation Strategy
Coach developers, product owners, and scrum master s on automation best practices
Pair program with developers to mentor on automation skills
Identify gaps in automation and build tooling to support developers
Train teams on creating and validating acceptance criteria
Design and Execute End-to-End Testing
Collaborate during initiative refinement to ensure clear acceptance criteria
Architect detailed test plans for multi-team end-to-end flows
Develop automated tests for React Native apps and CMS-driven content workflows
Perform exploratory testing and validate user experience across platforms
Provide sign-off for production readiness and support release validation
Maintain Shared Automation Frameworks
Enhance and refactor test automation libraries and tools
Implement dynamic test data generation, API mocking, and CMS content validation
Ensure robust CI/CD integration for automated testing pipelines What You'll Bring (Qualifications)
Minimum 3 years in software development and 5+ years in test automation
Expertise in React Native development and testing
Experience with Payload CMS, Contentful, or similar headless CMS platforms
Strong knowledge of automation tools/frameworks (Playwright, Detox, Maestro)
Proficiency in TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, Java, C#, and Python
Familiarity with GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
Agile experience; SAFe certification preferred
Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and think critically
Strong communication and assertiveness to influence product owners and stakeholders
Ability to establish and maintain trust and confidence
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs
