Summary:
  • The Senior BI Developer is responsible for the development and support of mission-critical analytics, Visualizations, and reports for clinical and business operations at Penn Medicine. Working as part of a team of BI professionals, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand customers' analytical needs and contribute to the development of BI standards, reporting solutions, and data visualizations to support organizational objectives.

Responsibilities:
BI Strategy: Partner with leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive BI strategy in support of current and future analytics requirements. Stay abreast of emerging BI technologies and evaluate their applicability to organizational needs. Apply creative approaches to problem-solving and develop solutions to address issues. Is flexible and eager to learn new skills and technologies.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of SQL, SSRS, Power BI, Visual Studio, EPIC Clarity, Caboodle, or Cogito and related coding languages (Python, R, Spark SQL, and T-SQL.). Apply knowledge to solve problems and contribute ideas to team strategy. Stay current with BI industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. Implement improvements to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and user satisfaction of the BI platform.
Data Visualization: Utilize BI tools (Power BI and SSRS) to create compelling and effective data visualizations. Ensure data visualizations adhere to best practices for clarity and accuracy. Maintain expertise in BI tools. Guide BI development best practices and contribute to the technical advancement of the BI platform.
Data Quality & Governance: Collaborate with data governance committees to establish and enforce BI standards, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of reports and underlying data models. Contribute to defining and maintaining sources of truth for critical metrics.
Subject Matter Expertise: Knowledge of healthcare data, regulations, compliance requirements, and data privacy standards. Apply knowledge to solve problems and contribute ideas to team strategy. Knowledge of hospital operations is a plus.
Report Development: Working with minimal supervision, designing, and deploying robust, user-friendly reports and dashboards. Collaborate with stakeholders and partners to gather requirements and ensure the delivery of insightful analytics solutions. Serve as a subject matter expert on electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) and use of data to develop clinical process and outcome measures to advance quality. Mentor team members as a Reporting sub-domain(s) expert.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diversity of stakeholders to work closely with operational, clinical, and research teams to understand their analytical needs. Collaborate cross-functionally to align BI initiatives with organizational objectives. Embody Penn Medicine's Core Values in interactions with customers and colleagues.
Data Security and Privacy: Ensure the confidentiality and security of data by complying with security and privacy measures. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) throughout the BI development lifecycle. Collaborate with the information security team to conduct regular assessments, audits, and training to mitigate risks and maintain compliance with relevant data privacy standards.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Education Specialization:
    Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field
  • 5+ years Experience in BI development and operations, with a focus on healthcare analytics.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering BI solutions (required)
  • Expertise with Electronic Health Record (EHR) data and healthcare quality metrics (Preferred)
