Job Title: Virtualization Performance Engineer HYBRID ROLE (2 weeks a month onsite)
Location: Westlake, TX or Merrimack, NH
Duration: Long term
Job Description
Key Details
- Locations: Merrimack, NH & Westlake, TX
- Interview Process: Typically 2 rounds (may extend to 3 if needed)
Role Focus
- Title: Virtualization Performance Engineer
- Team Setup:
- New team within SRE org.
- Primary focus: performance engineering/testing on virtualization platforms (not typical SRE role).
- Will support multiple business unit applications migrating from VMware to Oracle OLVM.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong Performance Engineering background
- Identifying/resolving performance bottlenecks
- Benchmark testing & performance monitoring
- Tools: Grafana, Splunk, Perfmon, Linux CLI tools (top, iostat, etc.)
- Hypervisor experience:
- Oracle OLVM (preferred)
- KVM, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V (acceptable alternatives)
- Performance testing tools:
- In-house: Rush Hour (based on Locust)
- Industry: JMeter (good to have)
- Networking troubleshooting: TCP dumps, Wireshark, etc.
- Programming/Scripting: Python (for automation, custom performance scripts)
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with benchmarking tools: FIO, D-Bench, etc.
- Knowledge of custom workload simulation (e.g., financial FIX protocol or non-UI based apps).
Not Mandatory
- Candidates don t need specific in-house tools (e.g., Rush Hour) transferable experience (JMeter, Locust, etc.) is fine.
- Exact VertIO/OLVM experience is not required if strong in other hypervisors + performance testing.
Role Breakdown
- ~60% Performance Testing: requirements gathering, test planning, executing test cases.
- ~40% Performance Engineering: analyzing results, identifying issues, working with product owners on fixes.
