DevOps and Developer Experience Lead

The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA is looking for an DevOps and Developer Experience Lead to join our Denver/hybrid team.
The DevOps and Developer Experience Lead serves as the technical leader for Developer Enablement, providing direction, technical leadership, and execution oversight over various DevEx/DevOps initiatives, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, alerting, and more. The Product Engineering Lead partners closely with engineering leadership and other engineering teams to co-own their roadmap, enable high-quality technical delivery, and guide engineering best practices. While not a formal people manager, this role leads by influence and is responsible for helping delegate, structure, and monitor engineering work in a collaborative, agile environment. The role requires strong technical expertise, communication skills, and a commitment to excellence across delivery, architecture, and engineering practices.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the technical lead for DevEx, DevOps, and DevSecOps, providing day-to-day direction and guidance to developers and other contributors.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership and other engineers to co-develop the Developer Enablement technical roadmap, helping to define priorities, estimate work, and ensure alignment with engineering objectives.
- Own and evolve the tooling, pipelines, and practices that support the entire software development lifecycle.
- Partner with other Engineering Leads to ensure consistency, scalability, and shared standards across teams.
- Own technical delivery and ensure development is executed according to agreed standards, timelines, and architectural guidelines.
- Break down large features into actionable development tasks, delegate work across the team, and monitor task progress.
- Foster high-performing team behaviors by applying agile principles, mentoring junior developers, and encouraging continuous improvement.
- Ensure code quality and technical consistency through code reviews, technical coaching, and adherence to DevEx/DevOps best practices.
- Maintain hands-on involvement with coding, solutioning, troubleshooting, and system design.
- Ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
- Advocate for engineering excellence and innovation, staying current on emerging tools, frameworks, and practices.
- Other duties as required and necessary to ensure the success of the organization.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Advanced understanding of agile software development practices, including Scrum or Kanban.
- Proven experience with modern engineering and architectural patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and DevEx/DevOps/DevSecOps practices.
- Technical proficiency in Infrastructure as Code, tooling, and automation.
- Expertise cloud platforms (e.g., Azure) and containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to provide leadership without formal authority, influencing and organizing work among peers.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience with test automation, QA/QE processes, and performance tuning preferred.
Education
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field required. Equivalent experience may be considered
Experience:
- Five (5) or more years of hands-on DevEx/DevOps experience.
- Prior experience as a team lead, tech lead, or similar influential technical leadership role within an agile development environment.
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must have a valid driver s license.
