Overview
The GIS Unit is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist / Developer to support ongoing and future geospatial initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in GIS principles, Esri product suite, Python scripting, and data management. This role involves a blend of GIS analysis, development, and process improvement to ensure accurate, efficient, and innovative geospatial solutions for various business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support GIS data maintenance processes, spatial analysis, and cartographic production.
- Develop and enhance tools, scripts, and workflows using ArcPy, ArcGIS Pro, and Python.
- Assist with Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) coding, LSRN management, and conflation with OpenStreetMap.
- Provide technical support for HPMS (Highway Performance Monitoring System) and STIP (Statewide Transportation Improvement Program) integrations.
- Contribute to litter management and other specialized GIS projects.
- Implement process improvements to optimize geospatial workflows.
- Respond to ad-hoc GIS requests from stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining alignment with project schedules.
- Communicate effectively with team members, management, and stakeholders in both written and verbal forms.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in GIS, with strong knowledge of GIS principles, theories, and practices.
- Proficiency in the Esri suite of products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcCatalog, etc.).
- Experience with GIS database management and spatial analysis procedures.
- Knowledge of cartographic/mapping standards and best practices.
- Strong experience with Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) data management methods.
- Proficiency with Python scripting (ArcPy, automation, tool development).
- Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal guidance.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with transportation-related GIS projects.
- Familiarity with OpenStreetMap data conflation.
- Background in developing and maintaining geospatial tools for enterprise systems.
- Exposure to hybrid work environments requiring remote and onsite collaboration.
