About the Role

Backend Engineers design, build, operate, and maintain the various cloud-based services that power Hinge. You'll solve complex technical challenges and own a significant portion of the software stack that allows millions of users to find meaningful connections. You'll write high-quality code, design reliable systems, and operate the software that you build by taking part in on-call.

As a Backend Engineer, you'll also be part of a diverse cross-functional team that includes partners in Product, Data Science, ML, iOS, Android, Data Engineering, and Fullstack. You'll help define and implement the technical strategy for how we innovate in multiple product areas (e.g., Compliance, Internal Tools, Bad Actors, etc.).

Responsibilities
  • Design and build Web APIs for a microservice architecture.
  • Build out features for an internal React-based web application used for Moderation.
  • Taking part in the backend On-Call rotation (around a week per quarter)
  • Design and develop distributed systems in Go using cloud infrastructure, ensuring high performance and scalability.
  • Lead projects end-to-end from technical design to implementation, while managing personal workload, meetings and timelines effectively.
  • Collaborate across teams, promoting a culture of inclusivity, growth, and strong cross-functional communication.


  • What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of industry experience as a backend/service engineer
  • 1+ year experience with building and maintaining React web applications (Javascript, Typescript, CSS)
  • 2+ years of experience working in a cloud environment such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure.
  • Strong programming skills: Familiarity with Go is a bonus!
  • System Design & Architecture: Familiarity with distributed computing concepts
  • Collaboration and Communication skills: Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas to teammates.
  • Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, gRPC/Protobuf, etc.


  • $ 143000- $172000 a year

    Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
