The Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator is a senior-level position responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of enterprise SQL Server environments. This role is vital to maintaining core data infrastructure, supporting development teams, and managing enterprise-level databases. Key responsibilities include database performance tuning, backup and disaster recovery operations, and collaboration with IT teams on system architecture and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring uptime, security, and performance
Conduct routine and advanced backups, restores, and disaster recovery simulations
Optimize SQL Server performance through T-SQL tuning and server configuration
Manage replication, clustering, and high availability features such as AlwaysOn
Write and maintain PowerShell or other administrative scripts for automation
Patch and upgrade database systems while maintaining system integrity
Support development teams with database design, optimization, and troubleshooting
Participate in evaluation and testing of new database tools and technologies
Serve in a rotating on-call schedule for production support
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
Minimum six years of experience as a production SQL Server DBA
Equivalent education and experience combination may be considered
Special Requirements
Hands-on experience managing enterprise-scale SQL Server systems
Availability for rotational on-call support
Must reside in a non-restricted U.S. state with stable internet access
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in T-SQL development and query optimization
Familiarity with SSIS for data integration and automation
Experience with AlwaysOn availability groups and data replication
Skilled in PowerShell scripting and automation tools
Understanding of Azure Cloud and hybrid database deployments
Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
