Title: Java Architect WebSphere
Location: Albany, NY (Hybrid Onsite Required Initially)

Job Description:
We are currently seeking a Java Architect to support the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) in Albany, NY. This position involves designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-level Java applications in a WebSphere environment. The role includes mentoring junior developers, performing code reviews, and supporting system architecture decisions in a secure and fast-paced government setting.
Responsibilities:
Architect, design, and develop scalable Java J2SE/EE applications using WebSphere
Build user interfaces using standard frameworks and design patterns
Perform system analysis and implement performance improvements
Create unit/integration test plans and debug complex issues
Collaborate with business analysts and end-users for requirement gathering
Review and maintain secure coding practices; participate in security testing
Lead code reviews and mentor junior developers
Document all design, development, and deployment processes
Provide technical support for data analytics and reporting needs
Occasionally support after-hours work for critical deployments
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience developing Java J2SE/EE applications in WebSphere
5+ years of experience as a software/solutions architect in a Java environment
5+ years of experience using Agile methodologies
Preferred Skills:
3+ years working with Apache Wicket in production
1+ year working with Angular for front-end development
3+ years of FileNet integration in Java apps using web services
2+ years with SOAP-based web services (Apache CXF, JAX-WS)
5+ years of experience using Spring and Hibernate
Mentorship experience for junior Java developers
Experience with Apache Struts
Experience managing source code and CI/CD with GitLab
Work Details:
Location: Onsite at 110 State Street, Albany, NY
Remote Option: After an initial 8-week onsite period, hybrid (max 50% remote) is allowed with prior approval
Work Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM ET (occasional extended hours may be required)
Equipment: All IT equipment will be provided
