Role Overview

As a Redshift Data Architect, you will be the primary designer and strategist for our cloud data warehousing environment. You will lead the transition from traditional data structures to high-performance, petabyte-scale architectures. Your goal is to ensure our data infrastructure is optimized for performance, security, and cost while empowering our BI and Data Science teams with seamless access to high-quality data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Design: Lead the design and implementation of end-to-end data architectures using Amazon Redshift (Provisioned and Serverless).
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize query performance through expert-level management of distribution styles, sort keys, and workload management (WLM).
  • Data Modeling: Develop robust data models (Star Schema, Snowflake, Data Vault) tailored for OLAP workloads.
  • ETL/ELT Oversight: Design scalable data ingestion pipelines using AWS Glue, Amazon Kinesis, and Amazon S3.
  • Modern Features: Implement advanced Redshift features such as Data Sharing, Spectrum, and Aurora Zero-ETL integration.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and optimize AWS spend by right-sizing clusters and leveraging Reserved Instances or Serverless scaling.
  • Governance & Security: Ensure data encryption (at rest and in transit), IAM role integration, and compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 8+ years in Data Architecture, with at least 4+ years focused specifically on AWS Redshift.
  • Core Skills: Mastery of SQL, Python, and AWS CLI.
  • AWS Ecosystem: Hands-on experience with S3, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch, and AWS Glue.
  • Database Theory: Deep understanding of columnar storage, MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) architecture, and concurrency scaling.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Preferred Skills

  • AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or AWS CloudFormation).
  • Experience migrating on-premise warehouses (e.g., Teradata, Netezza, Oracle) to AWS Redshift.
  • Knowledge of BI tools like Tableau, QuickSight, or Power BI.

Technical Environment

  • Storage: Amazon S3 (Data Lake)
  • Compute: Amazon Redshift, AWS Lambda
  • Orchestration: Apache Airflow or AWS Step Functions
  • Security: AWS Lake Formation, KMS, IAM
