Cloud Engineer (AWS / On-Prem / CI/CD)
Location:
• Preferred: Austin, TX or Fort Mill, SC
• Hybrid: 3 days/week in-office preferred
Duration: Long Term Contract
Overview:
A strategic and hands-on Environment Strategy & Integration Lead to drive the completion of a critical enterprise initiative involving multi-environment orchestration, third-party integration scaling, and CI/CD automation across cloud and on-prem workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
• Own and drive the end-to-end strategy to build scalable, parallel, and consistent environment patterns across both cloud and on-premises platforms.
• Lead the design and implementation of dynamic routing patterns for third-party integrations (e.g., Adobe Sign, Salesforce) to support multiple environments using a single shared external QA endpoint.
• Build and roll out repeatable environment configuration patterns to support feature branch testing, mergers & acquisitions integration, and upstream integration testing.
• Partner with DevSecOps, AppDev, Data, and Platform teams to solve long-standing CI/CD bottlenecks, environment drift, and external service routing complexities.
• Assess and remediate hardcoded configurations, enabling full version-controlled, infrastructure-as-code adoption across environments.
• Coordinate efforts to establish and normalize environment mapping for data foundations, legacy applications, and container/VM-based workloads.
• Lead a small team (or influence cross-functional SMEs) to design, pilot, and productionize patterns and inner-source tooling that supports self-service environment creation and deployment.
• Support the transition away from Octopus Deploy to GitHub Actions, where applicable, in collaboration with CI/CD stakeholders.
• Work closely with technical and business leaders to gain alignment, socialize solutions, and take ownership of execution through to delivery.
Must-Have Skills: 1. Cloud Platform Expertise:
o Deep experience with AWS, including VPCs, IAM, Route53, networking, and environment management.
o Experience with Terraform for infrastructure automation.
2. Hybrid Deployment Proficiency:
o Comfortable working with both containerized workloads (EKS, ECS) and VM-based/legacy applications in on-prem data centers.
o Ability to modernize on-prem deployments and integrate with cloud-native tooling.
3. CI/CD Strategy & Implementation:
o Proven experience in defining CI/CD pipelines across mixed environments.
o Strong understanding of GitHub Actions, with working knowledge of Octopus Deploy and strategies for phased migration.
4. Environment Management & Routing Design:
o Ability to design and implement routing patterns for third-party integrations across multiple parallel environments.
o Understanding of feature branch environment automation and n/n+1 component testing strategies.
5. Communication & Cross-Team Leadership:
o Strong facilitation skills to coordinate across multiple teams and VPs.
o Ability to distill complex problems, define actionable strategies, and gain alignment across stakeholders. Nice-to-Have Skills:
• Experience supporting mergers & acquisitions, especially with system consolidation and environment parallelization.
• Familiarity with configuration management challenges in legacy systems.
• Previous success in taking enterprise-scale environment transformation projects to the finish line.
• Experience with inner-sourcing practices or shared platform tooling rollouts.
Work Model & Expectations:
• Candidate should be located in or willing to relocate to Austin, TX or Fort Mill, SC.
• In-office presence 3 days/week preferred initially to build relationships and gather undocumented tribal knowledge.
• Long-term hybrid flexibility is possible based on delivery and established trust.
