Duties:
- The Project Engineer is a mechanical project engineering role within client's Gas Compression Project Engineering team. This role supports modifications to existing facilities and new construction projects at our natural gas compressor stations.
- Project Engineers work in team settings in the role of lead and/or support engineer.
- Project Engineering works closely with project managers, engineers of other disciplines, system (station/reliability) engineers, environmental engineers, station operations and maintenance personnel, outage managers, construction managers, external engineers of record (Architectural & Engineering firms), construction contractors, and vendor representatives to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget.
Key responsibilities include:
- The Project Engineer oversees all engineering aspects of projects, ensuring they meet safety, regulatory, scope, quality, cost, and schedule goals. This role demands a strong grasp of natural gas and balance of plant systems, engineering principles, project management, and communication skills.
- Coordinating and overseeing engineering work among external engineers, suppliers, and contractors, including design development, document review, and enforcing specifications.
- Applying technical expertise to solve complex problems, evaluate issues, recommend solutions, and support project development from feasibility to cost estimating.
- Managing procurement and quality assurance through technical specifications, bid evaluations, shop inspections, and supporting testing/commissioning.
- Providing field support, resolving construction issues, collaborating with project managers on schedules/budgets, and attending meetings.
- Engaging in project closeout activities like file and document turnover.
- This position requires independent work, team collaboration, and significant travel (3-5 days/week) to compressor stations.
Skills:
- Experience in the design, construction, and/or operation of natural gas compressor station equipment Experience in reviewing designs to assure compliance with engineering design standards, applicable codes, constructability, and industry standards.
- Knowledge of CFR 49 Part 192 Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline (Minimum Federal Safety Standards), and/or Michigan Gas Safety Standards Guide (MGSS), Knowledge of ASME Codes & Standards e.g., ASME B31.8, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME B16.5/16.47, ASME BPVC, etc.
- Knowledge of API Specifications & Standards e.g., API 5L, API 6D, API 1104, etc.
- Experience in procurement of engineered material, equipment, and professional services.
- Experience coordinating and developing contract documents (RFP documentation), specifically engineering drawings and technical specifications for both consulting and construction
